St Nick is a dual track school
1) IP track
ALL IP students studying inside CHIJ St nick
NO need to take any O-level (Standard Chinese, bu-hua), in Year 3.
IP students need only sit for O-level (Higher Chinese, gao-hua), in Year 4.
2) but O-level track, different
All HCL students, from Sec 1 Term 1 onwards
a) compulsory to sit for O-level (Standard Chinese, bu-hua), in Sec 3 first
And thereafter,
b) regardless of
whatever your O-level (Standard Chinese, bu-hua) achievement grade outcome (obtained) is,
ranging from (A1, A2, B3, B4, C5 or C6),
NO discriimination whatsoever, on your grade
All HCL students, will proceed to take O-level (Higher Chinese, gao-hua) the following year, in Sec 4 -
Hi Phtthp
Would you know if EJC requires IP students to obtain a certain minimum grade for HCL before they are allowed to "drop" Chinese in Year 5?
Thanks. -

There is no need for your daughter to take H1 Chinese, if she obtain D7 or better for her O Level Higher Chinese, at end of Year 4. She would have already fulfilled the entry requirements, into local university.
However,
if your daughter would like to improve on her overall Rank points for promotion and A Levels, she is encouraged to take H1 (Chinese) in Eunoia JC (Year 5), to aim for a better grade, provided she is able to handle (balance) rest of her other core H2 A-level subjects as well
because
taking up H1 (Chinese) in a Junior College,
require at least studying minimum, 100 hours, besides revision time aside -
Thank you phtthp! okay so there will be different rules for my son and daughter. Am glad EJC doesn’t make it compulsory to take Year 5 Chinese so long as one clears the D7 hurdle which is what the local universities require.

Eunoia Junior College is flexibile,
as long as IP students from these three joint (Catholic High / SCGS / St Nick) IP Secondary schools, have cleared the minimum \"D7\" criteria (requirement), for O-level (HIgher Chinese) -
Hi, can anyone share how the exam grading system works? They are graded A1, A*, B and so on… while some other schools use GPA system…
Thank you. -

at CHIJ St Nicholas Girls Secondary,
Hi, can anyone share how the exam grading system works? They are graded A1, A*, B and so on... while some other schools use GPA system..
Thank you.
for both the dual track
(IP affliated to Eunoia JC
as well as
O-level affliated to Catholic Junior College) curriculum,
our Secondary school's grading (marking) system, including all IP projects' and assignment work submitted to Teachers, follow that of our SEAB GCE \"O\" level marking system. That is,
A1 : 75 to 100 %
A2 : 70 to 74 %
B3 : 65 to 69 %
B4 : 60 to 64 %
C5 : 55 to 59 %
C6 : 50 to 54 %
D7 : 45 to 49 %
E8 : 40 to 44 %
F9 : 0 to 39 %

St Nick does Not follow
RGS / RI (\"GPA\" marking scheme)
nor follow
Nanyang Girls High / Hwa Chong (\"MSG\"marking scheme)
========================
In St Nick,
1)
All IP students take Higher Chinese, from Year (1 to 4).
At end of Year 4, IP students will take the O-level (HCL) paper.
2)
Those O-level students, who are taking Higher Chinese,
a) in Sec 3,
will sit for GCE \"O\" level Standard Chinese (bu hua), first.
And
b) in Sec 4,
will sit for GCE \"O\" level Higher Chinese (gao hua), next.
Even if our Sec 3 students have
scored a (B4 or C5 or C6) in their O-level (Standard Chinese),
our school still allow (permit) them to proceed, sit for O-level (HCL) paper in Sec 4.
We do Not bar nor forbid our students from taking their O-level (Higher Chinese),
just because they have failed to attain (acquire) a B3 & above, in their Sec 3 O-level (Standard Chinese). Students are encouraged to clear their O-level (Higher Chinese) in Sec 4, so that can gain 2 bonus points, upon admission into Junior Colleges
3)
In the final EYA (end-of-year Assessment),
at Lower Secondary ,
students from both the (IP and O-level) track, take the same identical, examination papers for subjects (below)
- English composition (Paper 1)
- Mathematics
- Science
- Higher Chinese
(for O-level curriculum students, who are taking HCL)
At the end of Sec 2,
O-level curriculum students who do well, are encouraged to switch over to IP (affliated to EJC) commencing Year 3 (IP), if they are interested (keen), but need to clear an interview first.
This is their last chance, the final boarding call, for Sec 2 O-level students to board the \"IP\" destination bound train, into Eunoia Junior College premises, by-passing sitting the National O-level exam, if you are seriously keen for IP.
==========================
For subject Literature,
for Lower Secondary (IP vs. O-level) track students -
As the Lit text books used are different in Lower Secondary, thus the EYA exam papers for Literature, are different in test (exam) content, between the 2 different track.
Every (3 to 5 years),
our Literature textbooks used, can change -

St Nicks O level grading is according to O level A1, A2, B3, B4, etc.
Hi, can anyone share how the exam grading system works? They are graded A1, A*, B and so on... while some other schools use GPA system..
Thank you.
St Nicks IP grading is not.
Edited to add, looks like you are already in the school, so wont your report show the grades? Our report book came back last week. You mean you want to know the marks range for each grade? Is it?
