2020 P1 Registration Exercise for 2021 In-take

For those folks that were going for balloting, it’s another wait.
For those who are out, start to redraw the plan/selection.
This time it will be excess + catchment. Plus your proximity from the school. -

While I can understand your anxiety about your odds, if you call the school and it does not/can not reveal the exact numbers, there’s nothing you can do.
Hi, if under 2C vacancies left 100, the total applicants 120 and its stated need to ballot for SC within 1km, does that means 120 applicants are within 1km? Or it might not be 120? Even 101 applicants also need to ballot right? If thats the case, will school reveal the exact numbers of applicants within 1km that need to ballot?
If you are within the balloting category, take heart that you definitely have ONE chance to be picked. (If your kids are twins or multiples, all of them go it together if any one of them is picked).
The odds do not really matter at this point since u can’t change them. To draw a parallel, during baby-making stage (fertilization of the egg) so many millions of sperms all rushing to the egg, you just need only ONE to fertilize the egg and you have life.
All our kids by virtue of their existence, are that winner. Think on the bright side. -
I’m going to take a contrarian view. This lack of transparency is a wonderful thing. If MOE truly believes in “every school, a good school”, they should further enhance the system and restrict school admin to only top line view (availability / no. of applicants).
Quite a number of schools are balloting within 1km this year, including many surprises. I think this is partly due to Covid, but mostly due to lack of transparency since everyone can’t drill down. The overall outcome seems to be a flight to safety. If MOE desires parents to pick schools near their place and not so picky in some of their choices, they may have found the solution

Thanks for all the replies… Nothing i can do. Now just depends on luck. Zac’s mum, you are right. At least i still got ONE chance to be picked!

It may also be due to the high level of births in 2014. Lack of information doesn't mean they can't inform parents who aren't in the ballot and will waste their chance because of distance or nationality to apply elsewhere before applications close.

if one do enough studies and research, he/she will be able to put in the application based on his/her risk profile. It is not as transparent as one want it to be, yet the information/trends were there for all to see, if they are open to it.

Not sure how the online system works but I read somewhere that some parents actually submitted their application twice. So, it might be difficult for schools to advise on the distance or nationality that required balloting, at a certain point in time, before the registration phase ended. MOE needed that amount of time to ensure there wasn't any duplicate application.
It may also be due to the high level of births in 2014. Lack of information doesn't mean they can't inform parents who aren't in the ballot and will waste their chance because of distance or nationality to apply elsewhere before applications close.
Also, if the school were to tell you balloting was for a certain distance but the outcome was different after the above verification process, would parents blame the staff for misinformation? So, either way, schools would be damned. -
If unsuccessful in phase 2CS, MOE will post your child to the nearest school in your area?
