5. At lower primary, there is differentiation in chinese teaching as told by teacher, no higher chinese language till p5 ( was told only 1 HCL class in P6), advanced student got more work in class. The chinese teacher I have encountered is dedicated but she has to cater all the students need. Generally standard not very high, if you have high expectation you need to have extra enrichment by coaching yourself or external tuition. environment is not conducive for chinese speaking, my girl complains she is the only one who brings chinese story book to school( after my insistence).
Hi
I have been checking the St Margaret’s primary school website for information about the school for P1 registration.
They don’t say much about what they teach in the English and Chinese and maths class. Can any parent here enlighten us on the following :
1. Has this school adopted PAL?
2. What are the schools Distinctive programmes like?
3. Can anyone point me to where or how I can get more info? MOE SIS website about the school is Not very detailed
4. Is there a Parent Support Group? Or is the parents teacher association (PTA) considered the parent support group for this school? Is the PTA active?
5. Do the teaching programs in this school differentiate between the fast paced and slower paced learners?
Thank you.
No differentiation in English and Maths as far as I know. I think English standard is decent( probably higher than some neighbourhood school) , comprehensive coverage on all components including writing. the girls are encouraged to bring storybook and do reading whenever they are free in school. Maths wise it is based on text book my pal is here which I think pretty basic and no challenging work (in lower primary), no extra challenging questions given. they have mini mental arithmetic sum competition every term in p2.
Not sure if they will still do streaming by subjects for p3 starting next year. -
Thanks Cbickaboom8888. How about the School environment? No open house this year, we could only look at the school from beyond the gates.
Is the school compound big with many facilities?
Anyone knows what the upgrades to the original site will include? Better classroom, new facilities?
What about the School Distinctive programmes or applied learning programmes? Anyone has more information about how the school runs these programme?
Does school offer robotic or coding classes? -

Why is it so overlooked?
SMPS is the single most overlooked affiliated school with cut off 242 for secondary, and chances for SC>2km and sometimes even all PR get in!
How is this school like - are the buildings at Wilkie road site very old and dark? What are they upgrading?
What about the culture? Are they competitive?
Does the school have many CCA and properly run CCA? What are their distinctive programmes? -
Hi parents, anyone knows if there is a Parent support group?

SmPs is not a big school to start with, you can compare the cohort intake with other school

Like NYPS. School compound are generally small especially compared to current holding School. However these are not my personal criteria’s for choosing school unless you are looking for specific facilities that can support your dd Interest such as Swimming pool.
Most schools should have PAL program - usually it is a outdoor activity like visiting botanical garden and learning English at the same time, can’t remember once or twice a year. This year all program are cancelled due to covid. Anyway not a big deal though it is a nice addition to classroom learning. You can bring your dd to performance/ garden/museum.
Robotics/coding - the ict club on the website mentioned about digital photography and videography. You can get LEGO WeDo ( quite expensive) to expose your kid or ScRATCH online. There are books sold on bookdepository Website that cater for lower primary kid. All you need to provide some basic guide for kids before they can try out independently. -
Thanks Chickaboom8888 for your response.
My girl got into SMPS already! 😃 -

When I called the school last week to check, the told me they are planning one on the basis that they can hold one like in other years, but they have to wait for Ministry’s Ok before they can proceed in light of Covid situation.
