Hi all I would like to ask if the sports CCA take in students who are doing the sport recreationally or they only take those who have trained competitively?

Normally, the ones Sports CCAs pick are the students who have trained competitively, but it also depends on how you do during the trials.

          Hi!

Can I ask about the shooting CCA and track and field cca?
Do both of these CCAs only take award winners or boys at competitive level? I am guessing they should have Selection trials?

Just wondering if RI is continuing their shooting cca next few years? Heard my friend told me that Nanyang girls and RGS is not taking in new intake for their shooting cca
          Thanks!

Hi, RI offers DSA for shooting, so it should continue for the next few years. From what I remember, all sports CCA have trials, some of them are compulsory, all the boys have to attend.

              Hi

Do anyone knows traditionally what are the Lit texts our boys will be using in year 2 and onwards? We’re downsizing our books and rather not give away potential texts.

NYGH has shut down its shooting club since beginning of 2019, so shooting is not available as a CCA anymore (except for the current Sec 3 and 4s). RGS still offers shooting as one of its active sports CCA, only that they do not accept DSA shooting anymore, but they are still taking in Sec 1 as their new intake. RI should still be continuing their shooting CCA for now, but can’t tell if they would choose to shut it down next time.

My son was selected for a racket sport he has never played before joining RI. But he trained with his primary school in another racket sport. I guess if the skills’ transferable, it’s possible to be selected for a sport they have not trained competitively, also depends on which sports cca.

RI has her own shooting range in school. It'll be quite drastic to shut it down unless the sch has more urgent needs for the space.

Agreed. My boy was shortlisted for 2 core sports after the Y1 trials, both of which he didn't have any prior experience.

The only thing that went for him was that he was fit as he was quite active in sports during primary sch days.I believe one of the key criteria is the potential of the boys to improve, and not just the skills level the boys display during the trials. If the potential is there, they will have chance to be selected.

Having said that, it also depends on the sports. Some sports only have a limited number vacancies and some of the team members may be at national youth team level standard.
