Hi parents/students, I heard that the timetable of the school is 3 days chinese and 2 days English. The school is also emphasises a lot on the chinese language hence students who are weak in chinese will find it very stressed. Is this true? Thank you.

I think it’s the norm for all SAP schools.

Hi ndzgirl.
If distance is not a major issue and if your child can travel to the east, then I would recommend Anglican High, if you are worried about not meeting Chinese requirement.
Anglican High is also SAP school, same as Nan Chiau. But it is less Chinese-driven. It is also having the majority of students taking Pu-Hua (Chinese) instead of Higher MT. But students can still enjoy the status of being in SAP school. If your child does not want Higher MT, the school is even happier because the teachers can have easier work -

So out of curiosity, I looked at the sec 1 timetable. 8 classes, all 8 timetable put down Higher Chinese. But my colleague’s daughter in sec 1 this year is taking Chinese. So does that mean, we cannot estimate how many people are taking Chinese from looking at the timetable?

Hi parents/students,
My daughter is in sec2 this year, she didn’t do well for science EOY given that the paper was quite easy. I feel her foundation is weak so I’m worried that she won’t be able to do well for pure sciences. The school said most, if not all the students take pure sciences. However because of my daughter’s results in relation to her cohort (majority scored A1 but she didn’t) I might consider to let her take combined science so she can do better for sciences in O levels. Is it possible to take this subject in NCHS at sec3 level next year? Appreciate any advice given. -

My understanding from the new P talk last year is that starting from 2020, all students are expected to take Higher Chinese from sec 1. So unless there is some u-turn in policies again... -

Might want to encourage her to attempt 2 pure sciences in sec 3 before considering to drop to combined sci if nec in sec 4?

Olevels results can be a pleasant surprise as the school is quite capable of guiding at-risk students before Olevels, as long as they co-operate and put in the required effort.
Worse comes to worst, she can focus on 1 of the 2 pure sciences in Olevels vs being dragged down by the weaker half of a combined science. -

There are many students out there who would love to be in your daughter's shoes. She should not feel discouraged but instead rejoices over the fact that she has the opportunity to still take on pure Sciences despite what it seems a one-time slip in her exam that she probably could have done better. Learning is a life long process. Let not a single exam discourages her.
I have seen so many \"late bloomers\" if you may, and all it takes is that moment of \"awakening\" in your child to turn things around and excel and take flight. I believe all she needs is a little more self confidence and encouragement from the parents. She certainly should not give up on the opportunity to pursue pure Sciences. As she embarks on her pure Sciences journey in Sec 3, things will just click and everything fall into place. She will look back one day and realize on hindsight that she made the right decision to go with pure Sciences.
All the best to you and your daughter!
