Surprisingly, no 4 or 5 pointers for 2019 batch. Guess most scored very high for 3 out of 4 subjects.

If not wrong,

last year (2019 psle cohort), the highest Tscore was 282.
How to know ?

because
several branches of Mavis Tuition centre hang up on their noticeboard to broadcast, Mavis proudly announced that this student with Tscore 282, is a girl from their Tuition centre (Mavis). Today, this girl is a Sec 1 student, from RGS Secondary.

Now, with a high Tscore of 282, definitely this student must have gotten 4 AL points, meaning that each of her 4 subjects must have been above 90 in order to reach Tscore 282 so high.

this is something puzzling !

Under the \"Independent IP schools\" column, why didn't Moe report

Instead, MOE put there, \"6 to 8\" points ?

Oic. So it means for some of the IP independent schools the highest COP is 6 (AL 4-6 range) and for some other IP independent schools it is 8 (AL 4-8 range). There may also be those in the AL 4-7 range.

Yes, correct because … imagine you are a student with Tscore 27x, definitely u would have gotten AL 4

I think there is some misunderstanding here…


MOE’s announcement was about the indicative CUT OFF point aka the LOWEST scorer for those schools, not talking about the highest scorer at all.

The range that they gave is the CUT OFF (lowest scorer) for schools A,B,C,D etc of certain school type (eg. Independent schools).

So indicative AL6-8 range means the most popular IP independent school (RI, RGS presumbably) will have COP of AL6, while the least popular IP independent school (er, insert name here) will have COP of AL8.

MOE will provide the indicative AL COPs for individual secondary schools in the first half of 2021 – based on the 2020 PSLE data which is the most recent. Parents are encouraged to consider factors such as the secondary schools’ distinctive programmes, location, ethos and cultures, alongside the schools’ AL COPs, to choose schools that would best fit the educational needs of their child.

So it may not be a blanket 1 to 2 points off but individualized according to each of the schools that allow affiliated intake. As this is still in development, we just have to wait and see.

Independent schools express stream cut off at 10 AL points will be for non-affiliated students. I expect the cut off to be significantly lower for affiliated students. More likely will reflect the current cut offs.
Looking forward to more information next year.

Yes, some schools will set 1 point discount, while other schools may set 2 points discount

Next year ( 2021) new academic year in the month of January,

it is high time for Principal of various Affliated schools, to brief P6 ( parents & students), how many points discount, they want to give. So maybe no need to wait so long until end of June then know, maybe in January during Parents briefing, will know already. Any school Principal or VP, given any hint so far ?

Which is really no different from the current situation. Some schools may choose a COP of t-score 200, others may use t-score 230. It’s a matter of translating 200 or 230 to a meaningful AL score.

It’s good news for those intending to consider the affiliation route: the AMR will be known beforehand and a fixed score to aim for. As long as the affiliate meets the AMR, and within the 80% threshold, he/she is in. The discount system, used for the O Levels, will create a moving target for the school’s affiliation COP. It would be at odds with some school’s philosophy.
