I think there is some misunderstanding here…
MOE’s announcement was about the indicative CUT OFF point aka the LOWEST scorer for those schools, not talking about the highest scorer at all.
The range that they gave is the CUT OFF (lowest scorer) for schools A,B,C,D etc of certain school type (eg. Independent schools).
So indicative AL6-8 range means the most popular IP independent school (RI, RGS presumbably) will have COP of AL6, while the least popular IP independent school (er, insert name here) will have COP of AL8. -

MOE will provide the indicative AL COPs for individual secondary schools in the first half of 2021 – based on the 2020 PSLE data which is the most recent. MOE is "working with schools" to determine their cut off points for affiliated students. I assume this to mean the cut off for affiliation varies from school to school. So it may not be a blanket 1 to 2 points off but individualized according to each of the schools that allow affiliated intake. As this is still in development, we just have to wait and see.
Independent schools express stream cut off at 10 AL points will be for non-affiliated students. I expect the cut off to be significantly lower for affiliated students. More likely will reflect the current cut offs.

Next year ( 2021) new academic year in the month of January,
it is high time for Principal of various Affliated schools, to brief P6 ( parents & students), how many points discount, they want to give. So maybe no need to wait so long until end of June then know, maybe in January during Parents briefing, will know already. Any school Principal or VP, given any hint so far ? -

It’s good news for those intending to consider the affiliation route: the AMR will be known beforehand and a fixed score to aim for. As long as the affiliate meets the AMR, and within the 80% threshold, he/she is in. The discount system, used for the O Levels, will create a moving target for the school’s affiliation COP. It would be at odds with some school’s philosophy. -

It would be at odds with some school’s philosophy.[/quote]Yup agree. looks like MOE wants to maintain status quo. The new PSLE scoring system will be on its first few runs for the next few years.
No point adding the burden of determining new affiliation points system. Most likely it will be individualized for each secondary school mimicking the current cut off points. -
I am wondering if I should let my children have a break form tuition this holiday for a week.
Don’t get me wrong, their tutor, Teacher Joie (Contact number 9071 3299) is unlike others whom I had engaged.
She had asked me to give my child a break since it is the holidays and I am wondering if I should. They had been having their holidays during their circuit breaker and not much revision had been done.
She even stayed longer after lessons to ensure that our children completed a certain task. Feedbacks were given after lessons too.
She had been very prompt on our children studies and being very involved, my kids only studies during her lesson. She even help my children with all subjects. My children are always happy to have her lessons.
Primary 5:
Higher Chinese (Start): 14/100 to 74/100 (Now) Chinese (Start): 37/100 to 89.74/100 (Now)
English (Start): 51/100 to 70.31/100 (Now)
Maths (Start): 40/100 to 68/100 (Now)
Science (Start): 38/100 to 81/100 (Now)
Secondary 2:
English (Secondary 1): 55/100 to 70/100 (Now)
Chinese (Secondary 1): 61/100 to 78/100 (Now)
Geography (Secondary 1): 42/100 to 76/100 (Now)
History (Secondary 1): 50/100 to 84/100 (Now)
What my worries are - will our children be unable to focus after the break. Needless to say, a break meant gadgets given without time limit for a week. If they becomes lazy after the break, does it meant that all revision have to be restarted?
The results are improving but still not the top 3 in the level to obtain a scholarship. Do you think they deserve a break? -

You should double up and increase to double and triple sessions if possible. Since the tutor is so impressive (super all-rounder as well), and you have let the cat out of the bag, need to chope her and stop everyone from engaging her. Rest and play can come, probably at 18yo (or probably 62 when they retire).
