I have mentioned this German friend of mine somewhere in other threads. Here, I wish to bring it up again here. She is Christian, believes in God, she would practise good deeds, study the bible. But she does not believe, to be a good Christian, one has to go church every week. She believes, everything start from the family and extend out to the community. She believes, it is her heart that matters, not the religion. When she came to Singapore as a tourist, she stepped in the temples, held joss sticks and pray to the gods for the good of her family. She cannot understand why there are Christians cannot hold joss stick and don't step in temples.

It is always the people who misinterpret the religion, regardless if its Christians, Buddhist or Muslim. The worst part is after misinterpret it, spread it and mislead our youngs.

      Well said!
Religion does not differentiate people. It is the people who differentiate the religion.

Yes, agree. Well said, daisyt and starlight1968sg.

Because of this 'not so ideal world' (an ideal world would consist of only one religion, God, per se, right?) where there is a co-existence of a plethora of religion(s), one has to strive to adapt and respect one another or anarchy will be let loose, as if there isn't already.

As for the 10 commandments (and I am responding to someone's post earlier), I do believe that somewhere in the Bible, it is mentioned that one shd \"love thy neighbour as thyself\" and also \"do not oppress one another.\"

Now, isn't that an invitation to an 'open' interpretation??

No offence intended, just MVOHO 😄

In Exodus, it says, ‘You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything, not to bow down or worship them’.
However, there are people interpreting it wrongly by bossing, bullying and criticizing
verbally to others by using this phrase. This is not an act from God at all. By all means believe in what your book says because whatever genuine religious books you are into will not teach you that you are above of ALL.

Some of these bullies forgotten about Mark 7:17, haiz…

p.s Sometimes, opps..,I mean most times, we need to think before we talk lor. (regardless of any religions.)

What I am very worried is some wrong kind of preaching or teachings can mislead our youngs and lead them to the wrong concept of religion. 😞

Believe it all abt personal conviction/commitment, some observe more staunchly to certain religious aspect while less for others.

I believe a lot of it lies with the intent of the individual and the context in which the individual holds joss sticks or steps into a temple.

As a Catholic, I will not hold joss sticks and step into temples to pray to other gods. But I may hold the joss stick because I want to pay respect to my late grandfather who was a Buddhist and whose urn is in a temple. The intent here is because I am showing my respect as the eldest grandchild.

On the same note, I will visit temples because I want to appreciate and understand the beauty and culture that the temple has to offer to its visitors, but not to go there and offer prayers.

I always believe it is good to learn about the faith and beliefs of other religions. I feel this helps with my personal growth and strengthens my faith further. Afterall, the aim behind all religions is to be a better person and do good to others.

                    Thanks Schweppes,

You have penned this down succintly and its even more clearer now.

Yes, respect is imperative .... but you will be surprised how some are not as adaptable or respectful in such a situation as you have highlighted above. A family member faced a similar situation as yours, but refused to pay her respects 😞

This is my view after watching videos posted in the Youtube on this Pastor.

This Pastor keeps telling his followers to give and give...then they will get blessing....
                      Don't have $$$...sell belongings....

                      Correct meh?

Newspapers also reported donations can be made outside the Church through nets/visa....

                      No give $$$ no blessing?

I feel all the followers must be pressurized to give and give....

This church has 33,000 followers....if average each of then donate SGD300 per month....

You know how much they collect each month:
                      33,000* 300 ALMOST 10 million.... :!:

Ask him give me lucky number on 4D or Toto then I give $$. :celebrate:
