Hi CLMom,
Your last choice #6 should be a school at least 5 to 10 points below your 257. Now your last choice school scgs only 5 points below your 257 is risky, if this year COP rises, end up become a free fall. Consider which school u want, as the last #6 choice.
Based on your current 6 choices, most likely will be posted to St Nick (IP) if this year remain at 257. But if St Nick rise this year, no chance. 257, unlikely for both (RGS and NYGH), but can go National Junior College. -

Don’t have to rank them according to COP. If you prefer it as it is, just leave it there.
Hi, my DD's score is 257 (no hcl) and I live in Bishan.
I am planning to put the following schools ranked in order of preference (hence it's a bit strange order for choice 5):
Choice 1: RGS (her dream school although COP is 261)
Choice 2: NYGH (COP: 261)
Choice 3: St Nic IP (COP: 257)
Choice 4: Cedar Girls IP (COP: 253)
Choice 5: Dunman High / NJC (COP: 255 / 254)
Choice 6: SCGS IP (COP: 252)
Are choice 4 and 6 fairly safe with COP +4 and +5?
Or should I move SCGS up to put in say Cedar Girls OL (COP: 249) as Choice 6 to provide for more \"safety net\" in case of freak COP?
I have been reading this thread and many seems to expect COP this year to go up..
Also, I read a few comments that one should build buffer of 8-10 COP buffer which seems like a lot to me... so not sure if it's really necessary..
Thanks very much for your kind advice as DD is my first child and I am quite clueless.
Thanks!!
That said, your 5th choice is redundant. Both DHS and NJC will have COP comparable to CGSS. Hence:
If you make the cut to CGSS (most likely), the 5th choice is meaningless.
If you don’t make the cut to CGSS (highly unlikely), you are unlikely to make the cut to DHS or NJC as well.
You can have CGSS O Level as your 6th choice but I doubt you will ever get there.
SNGS or CGSS will be your most likely destination. COP movement (up and down) happens every year and is never consistent across the board. -
My DD’s score is 254 and may apply some schools with IP, but I worried that whether IP is suitable for her since she actually is not very good at study from my view, not so smart and creative, and need work harder than others, and if IP program requests strong abilities of self-study, maybe she will not make it successful. If so, will it be better to choose O-level? Please advise, thanks.

Hi, I am deciding the sequence of choice
- catholic high O level - 1 point below cop
- nanhua - 2 points above cop
Travelling distance about the same, both are SAP.
Anyone can share ur view? -

The computer will look through the 6 options on your daughter's list, and post her to the first school it finds with a vacancy. For this reason, she must arrange the schools in order of preference (which may not necessarily be in order of COP).

COP +5 is probably safe, but if there is really a freak movement, who knows? It really depends on your risk appetite. No-one can assure you that the COP for any school will definitely not go up by more than 5 in any year (unlikely, but anything is possible). Out of the 6 choices, I would spare 1 which is really, really safe. -
My child got 205 and after much discussion, child decided only with Hougang Sec 205 and Yio Chu Kang Sec 189.
Is it normal to put 2 choices only as child think if couldn’t get to HGS will sure fall into YCKSS so not willingly to have more options?
Any parents have review for Serangoon Sec (194) and Serangoon Garden Sec (188)?
Child not keen in Serangoon Sec but I still hoping to get some reviews for both above schools so that child can re-consider.
Thanks in advance. -
Hi, I understand that every year NYGH will have new intake of 12 S1-classes, anyone knows the class size?

There is no need to fill all 6 spaces if you are very sure that your son will get one of the options you put down, or if you are happy to let the MOE computer make the choice if he gets neither of them.

If I am in your situation I will do this:
My DD's score is 254 and may apply some schools with IP, but I worried that whether IP is suitable for her since she actually is not very good at study from my view, not so smart and creative, and need work harder than others, and if IP program requests strong abilities of self-study, maybe she will not make it successful. If so, will it be better to choose O-level? Please advise, thanks.
I will explain to my girl the learning opportunities IP can offer and I will also share it can be potentially demanding too. I will first listen to her view, whether she is willing to take up the challenge and make the commitment. She may be driven, or she may prefer a conventional O level track. I will want to know how she feels about her learning path and her aspiration. -

I would not say it is normal to put two choices. Why don't you try Monfort Sec or Punggol Sec, both with COP of 205. I heard Bartley and Bendemeer are also quite popular. I will strongly encourage against putting 2 choices only, but at the end of the day, your son is the one who is going to study there, so leave it up to him. All the best! :rahrah:
