I think tamarind should be the best person to recommend you pertaining to age 5 and age 7. I only started putting a heavy weighing in the CL after my dd (Now P5) did not do well in last year SA1 (e.g. oral test only 12/20) . As such I started sourcing for CL Story books and CL show (VCD/DVD which only came in Chinese sub tile) aim to buck up her CL standard. By doing all these, I can observe my dd now hardly spent time on learning CL spelling and dictation. She even scored 98 marks for her spelling rev test without revision. Her P5 SA1 exam score was higher than P4 SA1. Therefore I would advise to let the child get use to see/listen to the show in CL without the helping of English sub title. I believe you would able to see the benefit in the long term. Hope the information is useful to you.

I agree with Brenda about watching only Chinese sub titles. I don't think that English subtitles are effective. My hubby said that he must read the English subtitles, the result is that he still could not speak mandarin fluently after so many years.

For kids at age 5 to 7, I would recommend the Chinese Doraemon series, and all the Hayao Miyazaki 宮崎 駿 animes in Chinese. I am sure that kids will enjoy them even though they don't completely understand the language.

I love 射雕英雄传 .I remember during my time, I will rent all the VCD and chase after the series and so hooked into it.

I remember at one point of time, the TV chanel was showing it but was the newer version, and I din enjoy it that much.

[/quote]Yes, me too. At the age of 9, I already started watching these 金庸 HK drama. So crazy about the characters and the actors/actress. I felt regretted, did not started my girl to watch all these at younger age. Now trying, but definately taking more effort.

Yes. Those 金庸 shows really so interesting. I also love another TVB show 大内群英, story about 清康熙末年，众太子图夺皇位, 四太子迫多修改诏书将“传位十四太子允祯”改为“传位四太子允禛”。

I still remember they amended 传位十四太子 to传位于四太子。 I also love the song very much.

I wanted to buy the DVDs of all these HK drama but the price still quite exp. Saw at TS, 射雕英雄传 all the 3 series is $79 (by 黄日华和翁美玲 - she was my idol, haha). 鹿鼎记 is $39 or $49 (I forget). Anybody got better lobang?

I bought 倚天屠龙记 DVD for $19.90. Yet to look out for射雕英雄传 (国语发音)，李亚鹏 or 胡歌 版本。

Of course the cheapest is like what you have done Book 1 is only RMB 19.40, about SGD 4, the other books in the series are even cheaper.

yes, though it is cheapest, i would rather order direct cos very paisay to trouble friend. if only dh agree to get Amex... ...but then again, i don't think i will be able to curb shopping online at dangdang if he really does have the card! :!: :lol:

When we were staying in China, my daughter and I used to watch CCTV children programmes. One of our favourites was a Chinese animation 《喜羊羊和灰太狼》. The story is about 2 wolves 灰太郎 and his wife 红太郎who spotted a herd of sheep and wanted to have them for their dinner but luckily, the witty 喜羊羊 and his friends conceived ways to help the entire clan escaped the wolves’ clutches. The cartoon comes with a very catchy song, “喜羊羊,美羊羊,懒羊羊…\"


For parents who still equate Chinese animation with 《孙悟空》and《哪吒》, 《喜羊羊和灰太狼》 is a far cry from these productions. This series was one of the pioneering efforts by the Chinese government to develop its animation industry. When it was aired in China, it was immensely popular and received rave reviews in HK and Taiwan too. For parents who are used to Taiwanese-dubbed animation, it may take some getting used to the Chinese accent in 《喜羊羊和灰太狼》but with so many Chinese mainland teachers in preschool and primary school now, the children may be more receptive to the accent. However, there may be terms that our children may not understand (more difficult vocabulary) or peculiar to China (like butter is 黄油 instead of 牛油), hence parents would be encouraged to watch it with their children.

I saw the 喜羊羊和灰太狼 at dangdang.com, already added it into my shopping cart My kids' Chinese teachers in pre-schools are all from mainland China, that is the only accent they know

i’ve seen local VCD shops selling 喜羊羊 VCDs. Those who are interested maybe can look around ur neighbourhood stores
