Just being nosy bagua, our drop was about 7%. If I were to understand correctly then, teacher mentioned that P4 SA2 was easier.. you may want to take a look at the SA2 marks.
Anyone with your experience to share?littleprince\" post_id=\"2001334\" time=\"1604550161\" user_id=\"19510:
For KS mums and dads who have had your child's results drop at P5, may I ask roughly how much of his results dropped in terms of %?
Ds is in P5 this year and we have seen a drop in his results. Have heard that as the difficulty level increases at P5 level, I have always prepared myself mentally to expect a drop in results. This has really happened but would like to have a sense of how much drop is too much and something needs to be done. -
Hi, in this era, is there still retaining in the level for another whole year if failed the examination?

I think Rosyth's slides are quite enlightening, especially Slide 21 onwards \"LEARN ABOUT YOUR CHILD’S TRANSITION TO PRIMARY 5\":

In some ways, I wish the P5s still had the SA1 exams. The exam format is different (longer) than P4, and I think it is good for the students to have as many rounds as possible with the same format as PSLE (practice, testing stamina, etc). I guess if you consider that they have P5 SA2, P6 SA1, and Prelim all within a year before PSLE, there is still a good amount of prep. But I can see some of the P5 SA2s having more volatility than people are accustomed to, and this is not going to make the P6 year any less stressful.
Personally, I found the P5 English Paper 2 to have the largest jump from the P4 exams. The other subject tests were all longer but about the same as before (difficulty wise). -
Although MOE announced guide-line that P5 no SA1,
however some primary schools still conduct P5 SA1 (mid-year) assessment. If parents feel the need to, can approach your school VP (academic), to conduct P5 SA1.
The same apply to Sec 3 SA1, if students feel the need to.
At Sec 3, aged 15,
students can approach their school VP (Academic) directly, since they are big & mature enough to handle themselves -

I think next year it is compulsory no SA1 in P5? The 2019 schools were free to do as they please. I think it was originally going to be the same in 2020 (school by school choice) but then all SA1s were cancelled due to COVID.

Either way, it's the same for everyone (SA1 or no SA1). Part of this is just bias towards what we are familiar with... -
It’s only an official removal of the SA1 MYE. However, schools can still conduct a max of 1 weighted assessment per term. So it’s just a change of name - basically you can still have Term 1 CA1, Term 2 SA1, Term 3 CA2, Term 4 SA2. Weightage and format will be up to the schools.
Anyway, there’s nothing stopping parents from making use of the past year exam papers and practising at home. Tuition centres will be conducting mock SA1 exams for the kids i’m sure. The idea of the official removal was to ease the school teachers’ workload I think. (Rush to finish teaching the topics, stress to set the papers, stress to mark the papers and go through corrections during lessons, then must compile the results…all this stress is pretty evident to the kids). I don’t mind improved wellbeing for the teachers, which will translate to better classroom environment also. -
I see. I’m not entirely sure but I assumed my kid’s school would ease off the full length SA1 (use time to teach upper primary curriculum further, de-emphasize exams, etc).
I have started collecting the prior year SA1s. They are definitely a good practice run. Still, sometimes I think the kids focus more on the actual thing vs. at home. There is also the question of can you do it when it really matters (anxiety always a bit different for the real thing).
Anyways, the journey continues… -
I see many parents mentioned here in the forum about the drop in results in P5.
But nobody seemed to mention the “sudden” faster pace & spike in homework load right from Term 1 in P5. Some of my friends (and their kids) have been caught unawares and are struggling to adapt. These are across several primary schools and their kids are in HA classes as well as MA classes.
Certain schools also make after-school supplementary lessons compulsory (for as many as 3 subjects). So the kids are not only more tired daily, they find it tough to finish the increased hw & still have adequate sleep.
I happened to start DS on P5 tuition during the Nov holidays, with tutor giving regular & challenging homework. Guess the motor was kept running & sufficiently warm. So not much complaint from him once school started. He is also cruising quite well despite his classmates saying the teaching pace is very fast in P5. There is a big jump in content & thinking skills required.
Not suggesting kiasu parents torture their kids with zero relaxation during the hols, but maybe u can consider this plan for your P4 kids in future. -
For language English, not much jump, from (P4 to P5).
But for (Maths & Science), the gap in jump is quite big, from (P4 to P5).
For Standard Chinese, not much jump.
