Frankly speaking, most of the primary schools in SK and HG 大同小异. The exceptions are probably Holy Innocent (SAP), NCPS and the few missionary schools.

My guess is Xinghua cannot escape from factors arising from demographics. It’s not located in a particularly young part of Hougang. Furthermore, the school’s catchment isn’t big as more than a quarter to nearly half of its catchment area under 2km are industrial estates.

What you can do to get feedback and review of the primary school is to stand outside the school’s gate before school and after school.

Observe the parents and the students getting to school.
You can see the students demographics, and culture - as well as other physical traits (eg do they behave well, how did they interact with their classmates, their parents, are they physically fit, etc.)

These will be the folks, the population that your child will be mixing in.


Last time, we can go into the school canteen to see how they ‘behave’ during recess.
Now with security etc, it is more difficult.

another way is through the social media.


Not just the schools’ official channels, but also the students’ own account.

Students like to post to Instagram, TicTok (less of fb) their activities, outings with friends, classmates or events in the school.
By observing the surroundings and their friends, you can get a sense of the culture.

It was implied in the news that they will increase 2C places to more than the current 20, so that kids living near the school can get better chance of entry.

So the trickle down effect will be to “limit” the chances of alumni living too far away. I think it’s fair. SNGS will have more 2A1 facing balloting unless they move nearer.

The number of Primary 1 places are limited and is fixed.

Any adjustments in number of places in any of the phases will affect the number of places in other phases.

That said - 20 places for Phase 2C is really really very little.
That means - only 20 non related ‘outsiders’ can get into the school.
It is timely for the review
