Hello everyone, I would like to ask about the criteria for P1 registration for ACSJ. If anyone could help shed light on our query, it would be massively appreciated!

We are members of the Methodist church and so understand that we would be considered eligible for Phase 2B automatically. Given the balloting last year, it seems likely that we would still have to ballot and the space is hardly guaranteed.

This is my query: assuming that we live outside the 1-2km radius, would we still be considered with the same chances as non-Methodists applying for a place and living within 1-2km? Or will the latter clearly be considered first?

Secondly, and related to the first, would the Methodists living within 1-2km of ACSJ have a better chance than Methodists living outside that radius? I assume yes - and if so, are the number of Methodist applicants living within 1km so numerous that basically there is very little chance for Methodists who live outside 1km to be able to land a spot?

These questions stem from the lack of viable units within 1km that would fit our living needs. We are still going to keep searching but it would help to understand the above points, as we may eventually decide to stay put where we are and just wing it for 2B despite the odds.

Thanks in advance for any replies and wisdom 🙂
      Hi Hi,
To qualify for ACSJ, it’s good that u’re an official member of yr Methodist church. You’ll hv to get an official letter specifically for P1 registration signed by yr Senior Rev/Pastor-in-Charge though. P1 Registration has always been very competitive for ACSJ places & those outside of 1km most years do not get a foot in. There shld be some viable options within yr reach if u explore abit more.

Hope you slowly out all the necessary jigsaw together soon enuf. All the best.

All in the same phase (eg 2B) will be treated equally regardless of how you arrive there.

As per the school’s way of placement / ballot.

Of course if you stay next to the school. then you are within the 1 km grouping.
What play time are you expecting in Primary school? The only time is recess when kids can play catch or games provided they finish eating quickly.

I am expecting the kids to have some play time to play amongst each other and be boys. Don't think That is an unreasonable ask

Not unreasonable question. No need to be curt. In reality, even pre-Covid or post-Covid, there was and will be limited time to play amongst themselves and be boys UNLESS the kids are fast eaters or they do not eat at all, get to school early enough before assembly or stay back after school for CCAs. PE and PAL lessons are not meant to be play time though they do play games. Even in PE and PAL lessons, it is a not free-for-all play time but lessons with specific goals to achieve.
Think all the schools have restricted arrangement during recess also. No playing and mixing around during recess and all have to b seated on pre-arranged tables. It is actually not good for the kids without socialising but with the current pandemic, seems like we got no choice but to accept it.

Can actually relate to socializing and play especially for boys. Boys will be boys. Running around, laughing madly are all so important especially for single child.

Play at school is more than recess! Play is an integral part of the school’s curriculum and academic environment. It attends to the social and emotional development of children as well as their cognitive development. Ask any kids, they all look forward to recess!

When pandemic sets in, it throws in brain overload. Triggering sensory overload and that is when mental health kicks in. I really hope this pandemic is over so that the boys can run freely and interact across class cohort in school during recess.

this is the exact angle I am coming from
zac's mom said it best, boys learn best when a lot of play and physical activity is thrown in

Yes, play time is important because that’s when students relax, un-wind themselves from various stress. Play is crucial, for a balanced life. All work & study, no play, makes Jack a dull boy.

Unfortunately, it is the covid pandemic situation that "lock" everybody in now, like "tied" up all of us, tied up our hands & feet, can’t do those things during good old days that we once upon time loved & missed so much. Sigh !

CCAs and enrichment in schools should be full swing for some schools now… like so busy now…I suggested to reduce but kid just dont care…they so enjoying it though could see the kid so tired.

@Lothlorienwalker, all the best. Just yesterday reported that MOE is reviewing P1 phase 2C vacancy. Naturally will affect the earlier phases.

To add, y’day’s MOE announcement point to flavouring distance incl Phase 2C with 20 places allocated for it. So, proximity encouraged for sake of children’s well-being I suppose.
