Call me superstitious, but with Covid19, every time a country has gets a little proud of its achievements in controlling it, it worsens.
Feb-Mar20, WHO called Singapore the gold standard of handling the pandemic, and then it hit the dormitory workers.
Early this year India was being applauded and look what has happened.

South Korea too .
So ya, the moment we get a little proud of ourselves, the virus strikes back really hard.
It is almost as if the virus has a big big ego. Country leaders who pooh-poohed it , suffered the most. US, UK, Brazil . It is a formidable virus, which keeps mutating and attacking, and we just need to get a little complacent and we will get hit.
We are very blessed to be where we are, but it is not over.
My mantra for now is - get the vaccine, listen to the scientists , live life but dont take things for granted, and be prepared. This is the new normal for the next few years. -
Likewise for SG. Yesterday it was reported about the new TTSH cluster which involves a nurse, a doc and 3 patients. All the patients and caregivers are now on quarantine.
Nurse already received 2 doses of vaccine yet she contracted Covid with all the symptoms (cough/flu/fever and sore throat). This is yet another reminder to those who had taken the vaccinations that contracting Covid is possible after vaccination.
A nurse friend who works in hospital told me that she recently chided a doctor for not wearing a mask when chitchatting in hospital, telling him that does he think “doctors won’t get covid?” -

Maybe am paranoid, this is certainly not a gd sign in the face of pandemic.

Actually when I saw most of our neighbours are taking the 50.4% vaccine, I was kinda like ''siao liao lah''. Even though we take the so called 94-95% vaccines, if those regional visitors have 1 out of 2 chances to be infected &/or might carry the virus over here with them, we're still not safe in SG. So you think you're safe around those Hongkong visitors who have taken their national vaccine? An Indon worker who took 2 shots of that brand has recently been infected in Singapore.
I hope PM is resting well, as I saw him double-masked up in JKT at the ASEAN Summit last Sat. He had to be in a place where most people took the 50.4% vaccine. Wondering which vaccine the Myanmar general took, and which vaccine the Vietnamese PM took (as PM had a separate 1-1 session with that guy). Maybe we'll see PM surface again on May Day.
Anyway, the health authorities and pharma companies did cover themselves by saying vaccinated people can still infect others, and a small no (5%-50%) can still be infected. It's still better to take the vaccine and be less severely infected so as to be able to watch KD on my tablet in a dedicated isolation facility, than to be intubated and gasp for concentrated oxygen in the ICU.
OYK announced the Air Travel Pass which allows short-term, leisure travellers to enter Singapore without any restriction on their itineraries. That means there are visitors lurking amid us who may or may not have not been vaccinated. As of Apr 8, we saw 2,400 travellers from Australia, 800 from Brunei, 12,800 from mainland China, 300 Air Travel Pass visitors from New Zealand, 800 from Taiwan and 1,100 from Vietnam.

I'm also baffled that the MOH has been releasing visitors prematurely.
Case 61536, a 43-year-old Indian national and work pass holder, arrived in Singapore from India on Apr 2. He tested positive for COVID-19 in an on-arrival swab test and was taken to a hospital. He was discharged four days later on Apr 6, without being required to further isolate, as he was deemed to be no longer infectious, said MOH.

I don't think any minister or PM has bragged about the Bloomberg Covid resilience ranking on their FB. Bloomberg updates that table every month, so there's no need to get excited abt it. We're No 1 in April, and April is coming to an end. Tourists wont come here because we're No. 1. -

I didnt imply that the govt or individual ministers are taking this lightly. They have had the tremendous task of balance isolating Singapore from visitors while sustaining livelihoods and keeping urgent travel for the long term residents open.

If anything Singapore has been ultra cautious , as far as possible. Unlike India where ministers were declaring victory and life of normalcy
But just these reports sort of jinx the whole thing. That is why I said that I was being superstitious :nailbite:lee_yl\" post_id=\"2021759\" time=\"1619669057\" user_id=\"17023:
I saw this news this afternoon only .And now the report of 16 community cases. I know it is all a coincidence but just makes me uneasy. The news from India is overwhelming and scary. The mutant variants will reach our shore. The more we delay it giving us time to get the more people get vaccinated and reach herd immunity , the better chance we have in containing. :xedfingers:Likewise for SG. One must be humble, nothing to be proud nor boastful about. Especially when thousands are dying, precious valuable lives are lost everyday, across the globe. Every few minutes, someone, somewhere in some country has just died, and their family loved ones are mourning, preparing for sad funeral.
The virus is far from over.
The virus, invisible enemy, strikes back
This virus has no eyes. No mercy.
Young or old (elderly), it attack. Rich or poor, also attack.
Even children are not spared.

On the contrary, variants & Mutations are spreading like wild fire in countries, across the globe.
