The competition at RGS definitely fiercer, than at NYGH

So the question, as both of us have mentioned, is what is the “limiting factor” - capping at 80 seats and the 80th girl scored AL8(M) or setting the COP at AL8(M) and it happened to be the 80th girl. My sense is more likely to be the first since there is hardly any rationale to choose AL8(M) specifically as the cut off without any context.
Thank you for your additional comments (here and above). I assumed all of this was already known to the NYPS community but apparently not.

Do you know how many NYPS girls typically qualify for NYGH each year? Anecdotally, I thought it was in the 80 range +/-. I.e at least 50 each year but probably not more than 100. Hence, it is also possible the school set AL8(M) as the affiliated COP and something fewer than 80 people qualified (in the 2020 simulation)?

Going forward, I guess it is the same thing - some years maybe fewer than 80 hit AL8(M) and other years more than 80 hit AL8(M) or better.

The remaining classes...would have to work harder or go elsewhere.

Reality bites. Even in my DS school, I would expect the top 2 classes to be the ones qualifying for the better affiliated secondary. They certainly have the track record of scoring well.
Nyps has GEP, Meta, and HA classes, on top of the MA classes. Plus about half of each class are boys. So it is not so clear that the 2 top classes to be quite guaranteed of entry (which 2 top classes are you referring to)? Every year, there are geppers, girls from meta and HA classes who did not do well enough in PSLE to enter NYGH via affiliation, and there are girls from the other classes who did. So, work hard at PSLE and everyone has a shot at getting good PSLE results.[/quote]
Sorry I realized I wasn’t very accurate/factually precise. I guess the top 80 affiliated girls ba.

And for ACS, slightly different (wrong comparison given by me) becos the top (whatever number) boys can choose IP-IB track with the non-affiliates. The next best group of (whatever number) boys would go ACSI OP under affiliate scheme.

                  Yes, some of them (Geppers)

NOT keen in IB, prefer the "A-level " path instead !

                  Besides,
some students are Not suitable for IB.

                  =========================

                  Hi Zac mom,

would you prefer your son to take IB (ACSI) or take "A-level" track curriculum ? Which track u feel suits him better ?

                    I know lah.

Not everybody will want to go on to their affiliated sec school / JC.

My son hates taking written exams. He excels in speaking & presentations where he can tell jokes and make everyone laugh along with him. Project work, also good as long as he doesn’t waste too much time networking instead of doing the actual work.

O and A levels are not the best fit for him.

I think IB track would suit him best. My friend’s son in SJI IB track said 80% of the assessment even from Y1 is on research & projects, versus OP still has the traditional written exams. I don’t know how accurate lah.

But ultimately, it is not what I think. The fact remains that the IB COP is far higher than what my son can score for the PSLE. He probably qualifies only for OP. That’s life.
