      KSP:
      1. Usually how long can a aircon last. I mean those with a compress and multi-split not portable ones.

      2. Can we service our own aircon? I feel is not that difficult whenever I saw the servicemen doing it. Any opinion?
      1. My airon has been 10 years. So far only changed the unit in my room once about 3 years ago. I have 4 units split, the rest of the splits are still fine.

      2. Yes, hubby and I have done so a few times. Its not difficult, as long as you know how to dismantle and put it back. The most tedious part is the cleaning of the drum. We don't know how to take out the drum, hence use a brush and vacuum cleaner to brush out the thick dirt. One unit takes us about 2 hours to brush the drum, spray the foam on the metal coil, wash the filter.

We also clean our own like what you have described in your earlier post.

but the topping up of the gas and/or chemical wash, still need a technician.

Thanks for all the advice. But why my air con unit is still not cool since I just top up the units less than 6 mths ago and I didnot use it for more than 3 times since topping up. Do air con need to be on weekly or daily on to have a smooth function?

Bt the way, if we change the whole unit, that means we had to tear down all the wires and reconnect new wires ? For those who had change the air con before, won’t that be a mess?

Dear daisyt, how they change the single unit in your room? Do you bought the same unit ? Because mine is a resale flat with 3 units of aircon but I wish to change / use only 2 units. And I was worried about all the hidden cables - 😒

by right, no need. your aircon should still be cold even if you seldom use it.

no need too. I've changed my own aircon and my parent's. the old ones are more then 10 years old. we use back the same trucking (ie, pipes).
