Sometimes just wondering are those unlinked now, are the 'first batch' of unlinked lo. Now that the cases coming out, with most us so guai mask on etc..hope the wave will go off quickly. Just when we about to see a better time coming suddenly like crashing down like that. Hope bz can dong and families can get reunited soon.

This year more critical than last year right coz it is community cases. Last year's fear was more on dont have much knowledge of the virus I feel.
I find that last year’s was very stressful compared to this year’s outbreak. From the moment I couldn’t get hold of a box of masks after running to Watson’s and Guardians, the stress already started, Lol. And also the fear and lack of knowledge of a new/unknown disease. Not just masks even test kits also not enough! Our hospitals were overwhelmed with patients and the hospital staff worked till like zombies.
Then we had to quickly build Expo and other quarantine facilities, not to mention that in the dorms, some FW SHN until committed suicide!
This time round, we are all masked up. Essential workers and older folks already taken their jabs. None of the affected children is seriously ill. Now with the tightened measures, we may start to see a decline in community cases over the next two weeks. The only thing I want to know is, when experts claim that there are many unlinked cases, is it because contact tracing is slow or really unlinked?
Yes, India is badly hit but we are lucky to be in Singapore where medical is more advanced and general level of hygiene is good.
This year, I am more like upset and disappointed with government for not guarding the borders better. It has already been proven that once we all go into our family bubble, it helps to stem the spread of covid. -

vaccine probably isn't THE answer....but \"one of the line of defences\"? lol
Too many unverified assumptions made, particularly the \"function of the vaccine\". Vaccine reduces severity but is not proven to prevent infection. That is based on how vaccine efficacy data are calculated by WHO, which is purely comparing people with symptomatic infections in the vaccinated and control group. So when unverified assumptions are made, everyday that passes without an issue arising is a blessing and not a given. -
unlinked cases reported may be updated as linked cases in subsequent days. This had happened multiple times but not often.

In fact, my eldest has studied the information (he offers H2 BI so I assume he knows what he is doing), and recently put in a request for priority-vac via the doctor (pending an answer)[/quote]...Even though closing schools is necessary for now, I think S'pore will somehow have to move towards treating this as an endemic disease, living with some low prevalence (provided death rates are low). Sure, doodbug,1-6 months ago, I could accept that it's become endemic already, but now you don't want B16172 or the like to be endemic in Singapore, to the point of us scrambling for HBL and Online tuition/enrichment forever, right?
Endemic also got different type of endemic, hor! Dengue and H1N1 being endemic is fine. :rotflmao:
Anyway, if we accept this is gonna be endemic in our community, have we prepared enough hotel/KKH beds or junior suites in chalets for asymptomatic minor+1 caregiver to be isolated, as and when a new case is confirmed in a school or enrichment centre?
As it is, the multiplied nos can be astounding as many kids in Singapore typically have 1 or 2 subject tuition + external enrichment like music, art and sports. Each time a minor is found positive, his/her entire class/entire bus/social network might be QO'd, if I'm not wrong.
Hope more can be done to tighten our border measures with very high-risk countries/selected provinces or states, like we used to for passport holders arriving from Wuhan, Hubei province, or Incheon, last year. -

If it's endemic, then I think we won't scramble for HBL, isolation rooms etc. There will be enough immunity in the population (either because of vaccination or previous infection) to prevent an epidemic, and we will just live with it.

Use masks with ‘good filtration capability’ amid spread of more infectious Covid-19 strains: MOH
SINGAPORE — The Government is recommending the public to use masks with \"good filtration capability\", such as single-use surgical masks or reusable ones made of at least two layers of fabric and with at least 95 per cent bacterial filtration capability.
The reusable masks issued by the People's Association and Temasek Foundation meet the recommended levels of protection, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a statement on Tuesday (May 18).
The use of masks continues to be one of the key public health strategies in preventing disease by reducing the expulsion and transmission of droplets, MOH said. The ministry and the Health Sciences Authority will be providing updated guidelines to help members of the public choose masks with adequate protection.
On the new recommendations on masks, MOH said: “The recent clusters suggest a higher level of transmission, likely attributed to new virus variants. A mask with better protection, such as those with better filtration efficiency, will help to mitigate the increased risks of transmission and infection.” .......

All in-person private tuition and enrichment for students aged 18 and below to be suspended: MOE
SINGAPORE: All in-person private tuition and enrichment - whether academic or non-academic - for younger students will be temporarily suspended from Wednesday (May 19), according to an updated advisory from the Ministry of Education (MOE).
The suspension applies to both organisations and individuals who offer lessons to students aged 18 and below.
This includes but is not limited to education and development support activities, arts and culture classes and workshops, religious classes, as well as sports and physical activity classes and programmes.
“The decision to suspend in-person classes is due to the higher risk of transmission of COVID-19 from the intermingling of students from different schools, and to avoid interactions between tutors and students,” said MOE on Tuesday.....

Do you really think that the B1617 variant attacks young children? Because we keep saying the variant attacks children, now India said they must be wary of us cos the Singapore variant might cause India to go into 3rd wave. But hey, it’s still the B1617 same variant leh!

I have my doubts whether the variant attacks children but it just happens that the source of infection came from Learning Point teacher to a group of children from different primary schools. If we analyze deeper, the few affected children did not cause their own primary school to develop into more clusters.

It’s like if a group of NSF boys brought the virus to camp, then can we say that the virus only attacks NSF boys? We also have supermarket aunties and 88yo cleaner who get infected, so it’s like it can infect anyone of any age. And not forgetting all the kids are not vaccinated which could also be a reason. Not forgetting that in last year’s first wave, the lady working at Chinese medical hall also brought the virus back to her whole family, including her baby!
