My daughter told me that too. For those who are weaker, they don't like it to be known. For those who are stronger, they don't like to seem boastful. Only those who are very close friends will share their results. So it's good that the school does disclose the median mark to give students (and their parents) an idea of where they stand.
BTW, somehow among their friends, they will not ask for each other's results. One girl in the chat group is known to have consistently good results since primary school, but she hated to be used as a benchmark. Maybe just expect the worst, and hope for the best. -
The median is given only by subjects. I think it’ll be helpful to know the median for the GPA too…
-
Think most will know that I meant is workload increase, which can arise from intense revision during P5 , or due to subjects increase in Year 3, hence the comparisons. Although grades maintain but will see if workload is sustainable. Else will consider opt out RSP like some did.

My girl is also taking RSP.. With this, she will be taking 10 subjects next year, sort of worried about the workload. But she likes the program and wants to continue. Have been discussing with her on the subject combinations next year, she insisted in taking 2 humanities.. omg.. Additional to acad workload, she still has her leadership roles in school.. Really hope she can manage them..

Interesting sharing! Thanks 😊 I guess most, if not all of the girls were top students in their respective primary school. Being mediocre now might be making some feel sad. Mentality. All about relativity.
Median is the mid-point mark - half of the students score above that mark, and half below. I feel it's a better indicator for that particular school than the average mark which can be pulled up or down by a few very high or very low marks. So if the child is scoring above the median, it means that she is in the top half of students, which in a competitive environment, would mean she is doing well. If the child is scoring just below the median, it means that a little more than 50% of students scored better than she did.Zeal mummy\" post_id=\"2025778\" time=\"1622466411\" user_id=\"58173:
Agree the medians are high. Not sure how to make sense of this data though. Is above the median good enough? What happens if a few points below median? Is median, a useful data?
\"Good enough\" depends on what your targets and aspirations are. If you expect your child to be the top student, being near the median is bad. If you want your child to be safely in the middle of the pack, median means she is right there. If your child is usually a weak student, getting near the median is very good.
Referring to the comment about the step from Y2 to Y3, I don't know how to compare between schools. There is always a \"step up\" every couple of years since that is the way our school system is arranged. It's supposed to match the students' growing abilities and maturity, so it works for most students. Students who are a bit \"out of step\" may need a bit more coaching or help in adjusting, but they will sort it out eventually. Of course, not every student can be the top student, but the student should stay roughly in the same place in the pecking order.
-

Firstly, I want to comment that both your girls are extremely outstanding! So happy for you both, peasant and lakesidemum. You must be so proud of the girls!

Lakesidemum, does the 2 humanities include I&A? I heard most girls do either lit/Geo/history, along with the compulsory I&A which is considered a humanities subject.
When do they get to choose or be selected for RSP? Thank you in advance! -

Agree. My daughter said the same and I am thankful that she has a smaller close group of friends that shared results with one another and encouraged each other along!

Thank you in advance!Hi, thank you for your compliments.. sometimes is tough to be a RGS parent, so much to “worry” and “manage”.. her workload, the long hours in school and after school (homework etc), peer pressure, leaderships duties etc etc.. but most of the time, I leave to her cos I can only be her facilitator, she has her own thinking that can hardly be changed at times, I just have to respect her. Sorry, digress too far off.
Ok, coming to her humanities, I&A is not one of them, so this is on top on the 2 humanities she will be taking..
For RSP, she was selected in term 1 in year 1. Just apply for it during orientation. -

OT:
Hello Hi! At least your kiddo revises intensively!! My Year3 insists on managing his studies in his own way - so when there is additional workload (like, special programmes...), something else which no longer sparks joy will just have to be sacrificed. Mine even has a knack for bulldozing through work, so can still afford plenty of leisure. Jiayou peasants!! -

Mine took special program plus the usual triple science combi, competitive CCA, etc. I think the good thing about RGS here is that they only count GPA for 6 subjects. If she is good in math and science, that takes care of 3 out of 6 subjects already (1 math, 1 science and 1 math/science). If she is good in languages and humanities, that should also take care of 3 subjects too (EL, 1 + 1 humanities/special program). So she can focus on the remaining 3 subjects to maintain/pull up GPA?

lakesidemum, your dd should be taking EL, H/MT, 2 MA, 3 SC, I&A, Lit/Geo/Hist, and RSP?
Maybe it is the COVID-19 disruptions and the teachers were less stringent (?), I didn't see a jump in workload for my dd from S2 to S3 (her GPA even improved). I think most girls should be able to cope reasonably well
