Next year, there could be a new African variant. There was this HIV patient carrying 32 types of mutated Covid-19 viruses. It’s a matter of time before a new variant lands on our shores.

We are hopeful but we can’t be 100% sure that vaccinated persons do not need hospitalization for next year’s new double/triple mutated variant, whatever you call it.

Europe and USA have yet to experience the Delta variant whereas UK having experienced the Delta variant is extending their lockdown.
Yes, there may well (almost certainly) be new variants, or new viruses, which may or may not be more deadly. But we can't be staying isolated while waiting for a risk-free period to start interacting etc. It's a judgement call when it will be \"low-risk\" enough. The authorities will have to find a suitable point in time without waiting for cases to go to 0 or vaccinations to reach 100%, and even either of those points are not risk-free. I guess since everyone has different risk appetites, no matter which point they choose, some/many will feel they've got it wrong!

The UK isn't in lockdown any more. They have just postponed their final lifting of restrictions by 4 weeks as cases are on the rise again (due to Delta), though much lower than earlier in the year. There has been a gradual lifting of restrictions since around March. Since 17 May, they have been able to dine in restaurants, have gatherings of up to 6 indoors and up to 30 outdoors, and no masks required outdoors. There are still a no. of restrictions in place, though, so many people are upset that the planned lifting of everything has been postponed. They plan to offer vaccinations to everyone over 18 soon - I think they have reached 21yos already. Too late for my daughter - she will have to get her vaccination after she completes her SHN next month.

Kudus' population is 92,000. Total 350 HCWs out of 5000 fully vaccinated with Sinovac, according to WaPo, USA Today, The Guardian, Nikkei, Reuters, BKK Post, NY Post. Only Xinhua News and The JKT Post do not mention ''Sinovac''. Actually it's only 0.07% HCWs. No need to worry.

Also, sometimes it could be ''faint positive'' due to the inactivated virus 'spilling', as some Hubei experts have discovered? 😂

For lack of a better term, I conveniently used the common term used by mainstream media.

The Americans and Europeans still think that “Covid vaccine” really can stop transmission. Singapore is small, coupled with aggressive testing, we can see the picture very clearly by now that vaccinated folks can continue to get covid and pass on the virus. And we also experience the Delta variant as our predominant strain earlier than many other countries.

Perhaps, within the next 1 month or so, US and Europe will experience what we have gone through. And then they will realize that vaccine does not stop the transmission. Back to mask wearing, social distancing and the dreaded lockdowns.

No one is denying the need for S’pore to stay interconnected to the world. The challenge is how to stay open while still keeping safe.

SINGAPORE: Dining in at F&B outlets will resume from Jun 21 in groups of up to two people instead of five as previously planned.

The group size of two will also apply to indoor fitness activities with masks off.....

.....Groups of more than two people who are not from the same household will not be allowed to dine-in together at F&B outlets, even if they are split across multiple tables, said MOH in a separate media release. ...

.... Mr Wong said: “We allow people from the same household to have multiple tables, but they have to make very clear that they are from the same household, that is not new.... This means that a group of six family members, for instance, will not be able to sit together as a table of six, Mr Wong stressed....

I think we may have to change our definition of \"safe\". In earlier days, when we knew less, those who contracted Covid-19 got sicker, and fewer were vaccinated, \"safe\" meant not getting Covid-19 at all, and keeping the cases to as close to 0 as possible. Now, many cases are asymptomatic or with mild symptoms, and few end up seriously sick (this lower severity is attributed to more being vaccinated, even though the vaccines don't prevent transmission entirely). So a modified definition of \"safe\" may be needed, which allows for a certain level of transmission as long as the no. of seriously sick cases don't threaten to overwhelm our medical facilities. Perhaps short targeted lockdowns and testing (e.g. 1 mall or office building, a few residential blocks, etc.) will be carried out now and again when a cluster grows beyond a certain size, while the rest of the nation continues as per normal. I believe this is what we will get to once enough are vaccinated.

                  Let's say,
                  in a common family of 4 :
                  ( father, mother + 2 kids), then

                  need 2 tables nearby,
because from the SAME family household.

                  Eg.

                  Father sit with daughter, while

                  Mother sit with son.

But if so troublesome, might as well eat at home

For the family of 6, then need 3 tables ! But if go at crowded dinner time, may not be able to find 3 tables

If you visit old folks home / elderly care home, must take C-19 tests

For a family, it's probably not very convenient and they will probably do this only if they on their way between 2 places; if not, might as well eat at home or dabao home. But at least they have that option. I think this up-to-2-person dining in is good for those who work outside the home a lot like the delivery workers - at least they don't have to dabao and look for somewhere to sit and eat, or people meeting one-on-one. And it allows dating couples to eat outside, not in either home (may boost family formation?). And it does help the F&B businesses a little too.

So, a half-measure, though not as much as what we hoped. My dinner with my parents has now moved home again (was supposed to be a restaurant meal to mark a birthday, F. day and another celebration all combined).

Open up dine-in for 2, is way better than not opening up at all. At least, taxi drivers can eat on the spot at the hawker centre, instead of hide inside their taxi to eat lunch / dinner.

Also, for noodles, is good to eat on the spot. When u dabao home, the noodle turned soggy, not nice.
