The English fans, outside of Wembley stadium, in pubs and outdoor spaces were not required to show proof of vaccination status and do a negative test I guess?!
Think they should do another study after the UEFA Finals. Maybe it'll drop to 59% in the absence of masks and social distancing! :rotflmao: -

:goodpost: They need the grandparents, not so much parents.
One targeted solution for an immediate impact:
Parents who are not vaccinated or have not made an appointment for vaccination will be in Phase 2D of P1 registration, after everyone else has a go.
Que: Mad scramble for vaccination appointment. 30k more people added to the “done” list.
After reaching 2/3, can start to ask NTUC or Sheng Shiong to give grocery vouchers or run weekly lucky draw cash prizes. Sure see an immediate upsurge. Grandchild+Grandparent go together to jab will get more cash rewards.
MTF failed terribly at encouraging old folks to vaccinate. How did UK manage to have near 100% majority whites vaccinated?
SG started off being very ''nua'' with the seniors in Feb. Now eligible but unvaccinated seniors' motivation has waned and they have become complacent because they see youths standing in for them, so they just shake leg and don't act. If they don't vaccinate, once the Deltas pour in to complete the mega construction work, they are going to succumb.
We mustn't forget that SG (like HK/TW/China) have many ''Covid-19 virgins'' in the Singapore community, untainted by the virus last year. In contrast, many young people in EU and US might have developed natural Abs because they didn't wear a mask for at least 6-9 mths so had been exposed to the virus unknowingly last year. -

It is very different findings. The only consistent is the effectiveness against severe infection.
I am bemused that just 2 days after Israel reported that the efficacy of Pfizer vaccine dropped from 95% to 64%, Singapore also revealed almost similar findings, that the efficacy for Pfizer vaccine in Sg dropped from 95% to 69%!
Now I am curious whether our govt all along knew the efficacy is around 69%? But need someone else to report before doing so?
I remembered our Health Minister kept saying that Pfizer vaccine efficacy is like 88% against Delta variant. Back then, looking at our cases involving fully vaccinated persons in the Mindsville, Bukit Merah clusters etc, the figures don’t really tally!!

Israel's finding (from TimesofIsrael):
Effectiveness against infection: Not stated.
Effectiveness against \"symptomatic infection\": 64%
Effectiveness against severe infection: 93%
Singapore findings (from Channelnewsasia):
Effectiveness against infection: 69%
Effectiveness against \"symptomatic infection\": Between 80% and 90%.
Effectiveness against severe infection: 93%

It’s 88% if you are a petri dish or test tube.
It could be 0% against infection if you are a MINDSville resident or staff. Or 10-20% if you live or work near Bukit Merah View.
On the plus side, the effectiveness against severe infection is still pretty constant at 90+%. -

We may or may not be coronavirus virgins, even if we are COVID-19 virgins. Still too many things not known. -

I think part of the problem with the seniors, at least some part of them, is that the messaging is mostly in the 4 major languages, and they need to have it translated to their vernacular. And in the translation, some of the detail may be lost.

The other thing is that many seniors just grasped the earliest message of \"stay at home so you won't catch Covid\", which was all that the authorities could say then as vaccines were not available and most people were having to lead restricted lives as well. But now that many are returning to work, school, entertainment etc, the messaging has to change, but many don't grasp the new messaging. I still meet some people who tell me their senior family members tell them \"I hardly go anywhere\", thinking that they will be safe. My mother said that at one stage, but we pointed out to her that if she didn't get vaccinated, we would have to keep the grandchildren away for her own safety - I think that's what the messaging needs to change to! -

Apparently, that’s what they state now. Remember, the efficacy of the vaccine is measured in terms of symptomatic conditions.

As for 93% effectiveness against severe infection, which is pretty consistent, no wonder my DH kept saying we should view Covid-vaccine as a “pre-cure” instead of what we understand as a conventional vaccine. -
Now there is new variant of interest. Lambda. :gloomy:

Non-mRNA (Sinovac, Sinopharm and Novavac),
which one better ? -
I would think Novavax has the best clinical testing results among the non-mRNA vaccines.
As for Sinovac and Sinopharm, their clinical data still missing. One can read up more about their actual performance in Indonesia and decide for themselves. But one thing good about Sinovac is that, vast majority of those who have taken the vaccine here, experience no (or v mild) side effects.
