Hi all just join you all as kiasu parents. I had hired a tutor for Maths when my son was in P3 who charged $100 per hour. End up I have help my son with the homework he assign and the biggest joke is the so call GEP and challenging question he claim he set himself can be found on the kiasuparent forum and any maths assessment books. Came to my senses after 4 months. fyi sitting down together with you child work through the past year papers n my pals homework books n textbooks have some very good questions. there is no shortcut, practice makes perfect. At the time when my son was under this so called super tutor without my help he score 50 marks for SA1, shocking after paying so much. I took over and he scored 91 for SA2. Work hard with your child if your pockets are not deep enough. Thanks to all who post these interesting questions and solutions and your willingness to share without the $$$$ sign.

      Hi, I agree.
Practice make perfect. DD’s Math in last year's P4 CA1 was only 66. We were quite worried and a friend advised us to let her practice more in past year papers. This really pulled her marks up. In two months time her SA1 improved to 84 and finally SA2 scored 95.

Yes, I feel this is too expensive. The tutors that I have hired so far are charging around $35-$40 per hour and they are alrdy so professional & experienced. U don need to pay $80 per hour to produce the same results.

Hi Mama Leong, do you have English tuotor? Can pm me the contact details plse if you do not mind to share? Thanks.

Ontheballmother, I only have Chinese and Maths tutors to reccomend for primary levels, as my kids dont have an English home tutor.

          😄

My son is attending English enrichment at Jan & Elly. It’s an Eng program which leads up to P6…it’s $45 a lesson and I’ve yet to see any improvement in my son’s SA1 even though he started early March. Contemplating getting tutor for 1-to-1 since it’s more customised.

              Mama Leong,
I may contact you shortly for tutor’s contact.

after reading so many post and based on my past experience of home tutor, i don think its easy to find a good home tutor because one thing they do not have quality controlled, unlike tuition centre their course are more structured n controlled.

i don think children can afford the time to try diff tutors…jus my 2 cents…

There are many tutors around but how many can actually teach effectively and motivate the child?

                      blackberrycck,

totally agreed with you.How much time a child has to keep trying and changing tutor?worst of all, some tutors cannot teach and its actually wasting the child'time too.

Good tutor very hard to come by.Also chemistry between a child and tutor is impt too.

Tuition centre has structure material and lesson, only draw back is no individual attention as it caters to children of different pace.

Another concern is if you are unlucky, you may face someone who is busy on checking and replying SMS during the tuition.
