2B risk.
Some indicative of the balloting zone for these schools when compare this year vacancy for 2B vs last year applicants for 2B.
Those near to zero buffer, depend on the GRL to opt for the schools to determine if balloting needed, Like tampines zone, some may slot into school that doesnt need balloting or better odds, like Gongshang, Chongzheng. Anyway, whether it is -5 or +5, it can swing either way.
Vacancies for Holy innocent dropped quite a fair bit, don't expect the same number of enrolment this year since if it requires balloting within 1km, those 1-2km will have to choose somewhere else (provided they know the risk and know the actual breakdown). The flow over may increase the enrolment number for St Gabriel, SJIJ and CHIJGC and MSHS
I didn't take away the red colour from Nan Hua as the enrolment may swing. Kuo Chuan may attract more 2B eligible folks due to more spots. So I just named them wildcard.
Abit difficult to predict Fairfield and Chong Fu (between within 1km or 1-2km) but leave it as 1-2km as unable to tell the catchment. Unable to tell the zone for Horizon. Of all the risk schools for 2B, 2-3 of them are MK, Horizon, Frontier and West Spring (buffer 6). The effect of MK on 2B is relatively minimal for now. I cannot say the same for 2C.
Have a thought on your plan and if you need to refine your strategy.
All the best to everyone enrolling for 2B. -

I think many applicants in 2B don't have a lot of choices available to them. Other than GRL and those with religious affiliation, most people are stuck with what they have.

This year 2C is going to be a very competitive landscape. Thus, those with options open to them in 2B, have to seriously consider the best course of action to avoid being caught in an uncomfortable situation in Phase 2C. -

Thanks. It is interesting as in one way the MK is just moving kids from later phases to earleir phases, and unless there are more kids in an area over time (could be true in certain places) everyone will still fit somewhere (in the area). But I do see how the ballot dynamics could change a lot if your 2CS option now has risk (offset being fewer kids may still be looking for spots then).

Horizon and Punggol Green number of 2C spot really get squeezed and these were already ballot before!
For some of the newer schools with MK, it will be interesting to see if (i) originally the school was not that hot, (ii) MK was originally not that hot for some (seems fine to me though), (iii) those in MK pressure 2A(2) and 2C, (iv) school becomes more popular on the whole because of (iii), (v) MK now becomes in mega demand at these schools --> never more than 20 seats 2C (absent seats leftover from 2B, which could then be taken up by new 2B demand)??
I guess this is part of your warning for those in 2C targeting these schools...
Also, a lot of people seem to use some of these schools as 'backup' for another popular school in the past. Really have to reconsider the viability of that strategy now. One may end up having to ballot in Phase 2C, then Phase 2CS before MOE does the allocation into a school that one may not even know where before Phase 3.
Those living in Sengkang and Punggol are probably facing the worst 'squeeze'.
In Punggol, there are 11 schools. 9 of them are MK schools. The remaining 2 are Mee Toh (HOT, in all caps) and Edgefield. When all schools are fully operational (i.e. having classes from K1 to K2 and P1 to P6). I cannot imagine Edgefield is going to be the only 'backup' option.
Sengkang is *slightly* better. 12 schools, and 6 of them are MK schools. The remaining 6 schools have 3 that are perpetually on ballot: Compassvale, Nan Chiau and Rivervale. I don't think that there will be many safe 'backup' options for those living in Sengkang moving forward.
P/S: If you are living in the AMK side of Sengkang, you are basically screwed. 3 primary schools, all MK
Also interesting is that the willingness to take on the ballot risk is quite dependent on transport and household situation. One child, stay at home parent with a car and it's not that much more to handle if you are unsuccessful. No car, no direct transport route, other young kids to care for at home and I care a lot more about the logistics vs the schools. -

If you are at the amk part of sk, why dont you just join the mk? Is there a waitlist or some special criteria for joining mk?

Alexandra Primary is probably gonna get super crazy? It’s already balloting at 2C <1km ever since it was established. And now they’re gonna have MK effect too?

There are many who had enrolled their child in a non-partner EYC or other private childcare centres. It would not be so easy for them to uproot and send the child to MK just for K1 / K2.

In addition, most MK are partnered with an EYC managed by either MFS or PCF. This is especially so for MK In Punggol and Sengkang. Children at these EYC are guaranteed a place in MK within 1km. As a result, some Mk may not have a lot of places left for enrolment in K1. Thus, if you are targeting a popular school with MK, or stuck in the AMK part of Sengkang where all schools are MK schools, you will have to start planning for primary school registration when the child is age 2 or 3. -

FYI, MOE page has been updated with the 2B vacancies.

Hi there,
May I know if there is a link to look for the most updated vacancies for Phase 2B and 2C for all the schools at the moment? Are they allocated equally between these 2 phases?
Thanks much. -
