P/S:
There are really A LOT of Catholics, A LOT of Methodists, and A LOT of Hokkiens in Singapore. -

If I’m not wrong, the SHHK issues letters that are school-specific. So the members would have declared beforehand which school they’re keen on, and the endorsement letter would only qualify them for that particular school. Probably no issue since you’d typically have to be <1km of the school to stand a chance in 2B.

For those popular Methodist and Catholic schools, people will still join the balloting if they live <1km. It’s the 1-2km and >2km folks who will have to confront their dilemma of trying for a 2nd-tier school, or to go straight for the 3rd-tier school. Eg if you live in NE area, would you apply to SJIJ? Or SGPS? Or Monfort?
Or if you live somewhere in the middle of SG, would you try to ballot for ACS? Or pick GMPS for a sure seat? -

Regarding SHHK, you are correct. The decision by the members had to be made a couple of years ago, and they will have to stand by their decision today.floppy\" post_id=\"2031609\" time=\"1627082257\" user_id=\"97579:If I’m not wrong, the SHHK issues letters that are school-specific. For the rest, it's the reason why I highlighted that they should weigh their options carefully if they want their application to be meaningful. While MOE may announce that there is a ballot for XXX school for SC > 2km, what they don't say is that there could be 20 people > 2km balloting for that 1 remaining space after the <1km and 1-2km folks have taken up the balance. -
Just for interest. What was last year’s number for ACSJ 2B? 59 SC<1km for 26 vacancies?
-
Is it possible or likely to see less applicants in 2B and 2C given some are shifted to MK (earlier phase) this year?
-

59 / 26 is correct but can’t tell what’s the breakdown since data not provided.

For 2B, unlikely to see a huge reduction in numbers.

Most 2B status are really ‘long term’, eg GRL, PV, clan, religious affiliation, etc. They have probably planned to use it for some time already. While there could be some who have enrolled in their old school while adopting a wait-and-see strategy, the numbers are unlikely to be significant.
For 2C, yes.
If you hold the total number of applicants as fixed (somewhat decided by birth rate and new immigrants), it follows that 2C applicants must be lower given that most have already applied in the earlier phases this year. -

Each year is the same story. Many other Catholics schools to choose from, but, in the end, parents fight tooth and nail for the selected few.floppy\" post_id=\"2031609\" time=\"1627082257\" user_id=\"97579:If I’m not wrong, the SHHK issues letters that are school-specific. Otherwise, the myth of the elite ones will just keep perpetuating. To the general public, specific school cultures are usually shrouded in mystery.
