DS received his 2nd dose early this week. Except for a day of lerthagy & fever, for which he did HBL, there were no other detrimental incident as originally apprehensive about. In fact, he wanted to hv his 2nd jab earlier but we advised him to hold out. Was initially worried myocarditis so didn’t agree to an enthusiastic son to bring fwd. His faith was stronger than parents human blind-side thinking he might result as one of few rare cases. Eventually, we had no reason to hold him back. Now, we’ve learnt a firm lesson to trust God to watch over him child, just as we’ve trusted ourselves to vaccination, including our Taoist inclined MIL who encouraged DS tho he’s her 1st grandchild. She had been vigorously advocating vaccination amongst her brothers & an 89-year-old elderly sister of hers. Every individual’s respond differently to vaccines & we’ve got to know our system enuf to take that leap of faith.

Cannot CB again. Overall GDP yoy growth was 14.3% (2Q21) but qoq wise it contracted -2.0%.

They just need to HA until VP Kamala Harris arrives and departs. She's coming in next month as part of her SEA tour.

Who cares about her coming? Lol.

Hopefully the daily figures can come down by next week. I would rather we extend by 2 weeks phase 2 HA than enter CB2. Already 3-digit daily figures for very long already. Last week there were only 3 ICU cases but this week at 7. Like OYK said, ICU numbers may just double every week if we don’t keep our community cases low.

Confirm got hidden reservoir now. Must be some KTVs uncles didn’t want to step forward to admit and be tested earlier lah.

          I think Singapore is Schizophrenic.
Here we are tightening up with ICU cases creeping up yet LW just announced that by Sept, it will be quarantine-free for vaccinated travellers.[/quote]We have to care & pivot strategically, as China's turning inward and not likely opening without 21-day quarantine till end-22!
We need US to stay relevant & engaged here. Lloyd Austin just left and glad KH is coming next. The US ambassador post has been vacant for 5 freaking years (!!) since Trump took office in 2016! Other SEA countries have a US ambassador except Singapore (and of course Thailand whose ambassador just resigned this year, and Philippines whose ambassador got transferred to Indonesia last Sept). 😓
          https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-07-30/biden-picks-kaplan-to-fill-long-vacant-singapore-ambassador-post

You can't have CB because the construction & mfg sectors must move. CB means they all have to stop work and it'll hurt our economy. The workers have to reclaim Pedra Branca, build BTOs, MRT, clear the forests, etc. US Global Foundries, the #3 semi-conductor competitor of Taiwan's TSMC and Korea's Samsung, is expanding in Singapore too.

Singapore is not schizophrenic. It's OYK who's the schizo!

On 26 Jul, he delivered a Ministerial Statement:

\"(Singapore is) perhaps the only country in the world, which has not suffered a collapse of our hospitals nor a high death toll, and at the same time achieved a very high vaccination rate in our population.\"

Then on 28 Jul, he told the newly awarded healthcare scholars 80% of our 1,000 beds have been taken up! :siao:
          https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/hospital-beds-could-fill-up-in-a-week-if-a-covid-19-cluster-grows-uncontrollably-ong-ye-kung.6566179/

His messaging can sometimes be rather confusing to the ordinary folks.

Actually, the higher ups are watching how the ''First Among Equals'' galvanise the peers & 3G seniors to heed his clarion call. Some of the office bearers are obviously taking a back seat, avoiding the limelight, lepaking in one corner with their own affairs and not proactively pushing his vaccination agenda.

PS: Singapore is not the only country in the world. Bhutan is 90% fully vaccinated with AZ, SinoPharm and Moderna. Only 2 deaths so far. There are also other Pacific island nations which have high vaccination rate and low death tolls.

We do not need the US to 'pivot' here, thank you very much. The only thing they want is to sell us more military hardware and set up military bases. Everything else is beyond their control. US companies and businesses don't listen to their gov. It's up to us to get the businesses to come, not Harris or Biden.

As for China, all they want is to sell us more everything else, and not to let the US set up military bases. Unlike the US, the SOEs do listen to their gov. But it is still up to us to get the business.

Mostly, they both want us to either say nice things about them or shut up if we have nothing good to say.

So there. Both are nice super powers. They are both the greatest thing to happen to mankind this century since apple pie and mala hotpot. Please just don't fight in our backyard. Thank you.

Just get almost everybody vaccinated. P, M, S or the other S or N. It actually makes no difference, apart from the occasional side effects. Unless we happen to be shareholders of one or the other...

Then we can do away with all those pesky QO and SHN. That's what it means to deal with an endemic COVID-19. You don't QO, SHN or ring-fence when somebody catches the flu.

And if you do get it despite 2 jabs, think of it as getting a free booster against that particular variant.

              :siam:

It's because we have to deal with 2 groups:
                - unvaccinated (the worrying ones are the seniors; younger ones generally get seriously ill)
                - fully vaccinated

The 2nd group are the larger group, and the relaxation of measures is necessary for the economy, education, and general well-being (dining-in, travel, exercise, family gatherings, life events, work/social life, etc.). At some point, this group must be allowed to resume a more normal life with fewer restrictions. And they are not likely to cause hospitals to be overwhelmed.

The 1st group are the minority, and sooner or later, given the reasons above, they cannot assume that the nation will stay restricted just to give them more protection. I feel that the time has come that the burden of protection needs to flip - the unvaccinated will have to restrict themselves to protect themselves, while watching the rest of the population resume normal activities. They are the ones who are likely to be in the ICU beds.

                    Starlight1968sg,

When you say \"return to normal\", actually what kind of normal, are you expecting or refering to ?

If you are thinking of pre-covid days 2019 , 2018, 2017, 2016 & before, etc, before Wuhan virus bteak out, don't think those good old days will ever come back anymore

Agree. We’ve to start settling our hearts down and since CB days till now, we’ve been learning to ensure we’ve masks on, clean everytime we’ve touch unknown surfaces or items & not go into crowds. Life shld get back to daily norm of accessing daily needs, exercise more, care for each other and our elderlies and those in need for an uplift with job changes & children learning to cope with less playmates.

Pray that healing fr this covid episode can start with majority vaccinated, esp with Nurses Day today. Rmbr’g those frontliners who touch the lives of the sick. 🙏🏻
