Hi just curious and checking if anyone knows...

In some years and in some schools the total intake for the year is higher than total vacancy. Does anyone know why?
For example, Nanyang in 2019 and 2020 has 395 and 391 intakes respectively when the total vacancy is 390.

Maybe during phase 2c,
Someone from the earlier phases withdraw their place

But the earlier numbers not updated accordingly. (Cos also don’t know which phase that child belonged to )

The intake is not necessary > total vacancy of 390.
Take for example, year 2019. By Phase 2A(2), all available places (11) are taken up. Therefore, you should expect 20 / 20 for Phase 2B and Phase 2C. Yet, you see 21 / 21 for Phase 2B and Phase 2C. What it means is, along the way / phase, someone from an earlier phase drop out and re-register somewhere else.

could be due to twins balloted in successfully, at Phase 2C.


When one twin is balloted in, the other one automatically enter too. The opposite (balloted out), is also true

If I use last year applicant number and compare with current vacancies at 2C,
1 school would be almost 800% oversubscribed
1 school would be between 600% to 700% oversubscribed
2 schools would be between 500% to 600% oversubscribed
5 schools would be between 400% to 500% oversubscribed
11 schools would be between 300% to 400% oversubscribed
17 schools would be between 200% to 300% oversubscribed

For those who are already looking ahead to Phase 2C, do note that there are 100 schools with the same number of vacancy or less in Phase 2B this year compared to last year. If the number of applicants for Phase 2B remains the same or higher than last year, we are going to see an ultra-competitive Phase 2C this year.

Don't say you haven't been warned :siam:

The numbers, in terms of oversubscription, should be slightly lower as some applicants have already moved into the earlier phases. Nonetheless, the popular choices will be extremely competitive.

Of particular interest to me are the following schools due to a cap on PR being placed on them.

1. Bukit Timah Primary School
2. Changkat Primary School
3. Clementi Primary School
4. Marymount Convent School 
5. North Spring Primary School
6. Opera Estate Primary School
7. Park View Primary School
8. Tanjong Katong Primary School

The question, if you are a PR, and especially if you are > 1km, you would probably NOT WANT to consider these schools. That being the case, which other schools would you consider? There could be a ripple effect and affects the available vacancy for some schools in Phase 2C.

Last year 70 schools needed to ballot for those within 1km.



This year:
A few schools have more vacancies, namely Canberra, will be a better year for those staying within 1km.
A few schools may join in the foray for <1km, like Punggol Primary, St Andrew Junior (borderline between 1-2km and <1km) and Valour.

Not posting stats specifically as seem little interest for that (based on forum postings or enquiry). Either parents are well informed of what is coming or are well prepared for battle.
