This part is true. Like the ACS boys wanting their kids and grandkids to also attend ACS.
Strong alumni. Generations of Rgs girls, the child’s aunties, mums, grandmothers, grandaunties were from rgs. Maybe the reason for the demand in RgPs.

But where we know majority (>50% if not 75%) of ACS boys will remain in the ACS family, typically by way of affiliation, I am not so sure majority of RGPS girls will make it to RGS.

I don’t have the numbers, impression wise approximately 50 girls make it there yearly. There’s probably no way to verify unless u work there.

Actually I really don't get the appeal of RGPS. There is no affiliation and just a girls school. Being a GEP centre does not increase one's chance of being in GEP. In RGPS, most girls are heavily tutored and go enrichment centres. So we cannot say the sterling results is due to the school's effective teaching too.
The appeal is probably the brand. And I think rgps is one of the branded schools that is easier to get in. Therefore many people just go for it. The other branded schools are harder for 2C. So if one is looking for brand, and he looks at sc, mg, sn, ny, rg….. rg would the one to try for.

The thing about heavily tutored + good results vs heavily tutored + not so good results, has little to do with the school. It would be the tuition centers that they go to.

Also, nobody really has the stats on their non gep PSLE results vs other schools mainstream results right? :siam: think i read in this thread some time ago that their mainstream normally go to Crescent and St Margs. Nothing wrong with these schools though…

Spot on!! And even amongst those who go to same tuition centres, the biggest factor that can explain the results is having hands on parents who know how to teach.

A lot of RGPS kids have expensive tuition from Primary 1 or even earlier + hands on parents. Teachers in RGPS expect parents to do a lot of work.

As an ex acs alumni I can say it’s nothing about brand loyalty Prada works for me need not be Hermes. If my son is in nanyang that’s fine. I’m talking about sg inc. it gets tougher each year. I can earn 5 digit it’s nothing when Pasir Ris condo is going at 2k psf. Hard truths. Which is why I’m so concerned. Otherwise who really cares. Agreed. So what it’s just a school. With the hedonic I alluded to. Yes it matters.

                a) Can you give us example of expensive tuition which guarantee results?
                b) How do you know many kids from RGPS goes to these expensive tuition as compared to another school?
                c) How do you know teachers in RGPS expects parents to do \"alot\" of work?

Like I said before, whether a grape is sour or sweet, it's better to taste it for yourself instead of talking about it from afar.

Like I said before, whether a grape is sour or sweet, it's better to taste it for yourself instead of talking about it from afar.
Because we have had quite a few kids from extended family, friends and colleagues who sent kids there. Some graduated, some still there. So didn't talk from far but tasted it. No expensive tuition that guarantee results because results vary like I said. My neice's 3 best friends all had private tuition for 4 subjects and parents spent over $1800 a month on tuition. Not a RGPS thing right? Common in SG in other schools too. But all parents we know with kids in the school agreed and those there now also agree when we met and chatted or exchanged in FB groups and forums that they had to do a lot of work. But this is not always bad. Some parents love it that they can be hands on. Some hate it. Again, not unique to RGPS. Which is why I said I don't get the appeal. My own 2 cents. No need to be upset. No offence taken and no one gets offended because I am not trying to persuade or dissuade. But a school is a school and it is just a school.

If your point that RGPS produce good results, and all credits should go to tuition centres and parents,
it will not only be RGPS, it’ll be all the schools in this estate, since the kids in this area will all Likly go to the same or similarly expensive tuitions, the parents may all be of similar mindset and level of hands-on, families are probably about similar socio economic status etc etc.
It’s well know many RGPS girls are exposed to many Outside activities, programme to build other areas of talents.. across the roads at nanyang it’s the same.. a boy from there goes for private track n field training, another goes for water polo. I doubt it’s any different over at ACS , even with their affiliation safety net.

If parents do not want to join in this rat race, either be v discipline not to be affected n stress by it, or jus stay out of the schools in this estate altogether.

But a school is a school and it is just a school.
Your impression of the school is still base purely on hearsay and zero direct contact from within the school or teacher. For example, there are around 250+ students per cohort, and your extended family, niece friend etc may just represent 1% of the cohort sampling size. It is as good as saying ACS is a billionaire school because a few kids came from billionaire families. Furthermore, what you just say can easily apply to all popular primary schools in Singapore. Try Henry Park, NYPS, ACS, MGS, Tao Nan CHS etc.

Perhaps you can share with us which school in Singapore really impress upon you with a strong culture of no tuition but excellent academic results?

I have no comments about the tutored / non-tutored thing.

Based on brand (which I assumed to be a GEP / SAP school thing), it's probably one of the easiest to get in. Most years, SC < 1km would get in safely, whereas for other GEP and SAP schools, you are really only getting a ticket to ballot < 1km. Getting in without losing a lot of hair would have been a big appeal in itself.

In terms of results, based on the last known (verifiable) PSLE results from circa 2012 to 2014, RGPS has about 91% eligible for express (t-score > 200). That number is more-or-less in line with TNS (92%) and better than HPPS (86%), Rosyth (83%) and SHPS (77%). While I doubt that > 40% from RGPS are scoring 250 & above, as that would have been way above the averages of TNS and HPPS (33%) and really in the region of NYPS (allegedly, > 45%), I believe that majority of the school's students are doing better than the national average and could qualify for schools like CGS, SMSS etc.
