Actually you can agar agar guess your chances. Taking this year's 97 spaces as an example and then looking at the residential demographics of the area within 1km of the school, you would be able to more or less guesstimate your 2C chances. If you stay within 1km of RGPS then based on the surrounding residential areas, I really don't expect that it will be 97 girls (as last year was at least 77 girls but this year increased spaces by 20 to 97), and even if really exceed 97 girls and become say 110 etc, the chances of balloting success is still relatively good all things considered (of cos better have back up 2CS plan haha).[/quote]Ya last year was probably a shocker to many parents, how there can be at least 77,78 girls within 1km, considering how Low density the 1km radius is.
Oh ok no worries. But actually although I will like to if MOE does updates on Day 3 the final numbers but then again without breakdown sometimes the number means nothing as well. Of course for some situation it might but for some might not. I mean say for RGPS, we know there's 97 places available. So if on Day 3, MOE update total number 1) 150, 2) 176, 3) 200. Does it mean much? Maybe if it's 150, I have a bit of feel good factor cos it's less than last year but without knowing the breakdown it doesn't mean anything as in what if all 150 with 1KM? There’s probably no way to verify unless u work there.

The appeal is probably the brand. And I think rgps is one of the branded schools that is easier to get in. Therefore many people just go for it. The other branded schools are harder for 2C. So if one is looking for brand, and he looks at sc, mg, sn, ny, rg….. rg would the one to try for.
Actually I really don't get the appeal of RGPS. There is no affiliation and just a girls school. Being a GEP centre does not increase one's chance of being in GEP. In RGPS, most girls are heavily tutored and go enrichment centres. So we cannot say the sterling results is due to the school's effective teaching too.
The thing about heavily tutored + good results vs heavily tutored + not so good results, has little to do with the school. It would be the tuition centers that they go to.
Also, nobody really has the stats on their non gep PSLE results vs other schools mainstream results right? :siam: think i read in this thread some time ago that their mainstream normally go to Crescent and St Margs. Nothing wrong with these schools though… -

As an ex acs alumni I can say it’s nothing about brand loyalty Prada works for me need not be Hermes. If my son is in nanyang that’s fine. I’m talking about sg inc. it gets tougher each year. I can earn 5 digit it’s nothing when Pasir Ris condo is going at 2k psf. Hard truths. Which is why I’m so concerned. Otherwise who really cares. Agreed. So what it’s just a school. With the hedonic I alluded to. Yes it matters.

Some graduated, some still there. So didn't talk from far but tasted it. No expensive tuition that guarantee results because results vary like I said. My neice's 3 best friends all had private tuition for 4 subjects and parents spent over $1800 a month on tuition. Not a RGPS thing right? Common in SG in other schools too. But all parents we know with kids in the school agreed and those there now also agree when we met and chatted or exchanged in FB groups and forums that they had to do a lot of work. But this is not always bad. Some parents love it that they can be hands on. Some hate it. Again, not unique to RGPS. Which is why I said I don't get the appeal. My own 2 cents. No need to be upset. No offence taken and no one gets offended because I am not trying to persuade or dissuade. But a school is a school and it is just a school. -

it will not only be RGPS, it’ll be all the schools in this estate, since the kids in this area will all Likly go to the same or similarly expensive tuitions, the parents may all be of similar mindset and level of hands-on, families are probably about similar socio economic status etc etc.
It’s well know many RGPS girls are exposed to many Outside activities, programme to build other areas of talents.. across the roads at nanyang it’s the same.. a boy from there goes for private track n field training, another goes for water polo. I doubt it’s any different over at ACS , even with their affiliation safety net.
If parents do not want to join in this rat race, either be v discipline not to be affected n stress by it, or jus stay out of the schools in this estate altogether.
