I've been wondering - for those schools like Northlands and Southview. Since its so over-subscribed (guessing that they are mainly <1km confirm need to ballot); where would be the next natural selection be; would be somewhere still close enough right. Since distance was a key factor ?

South View has been conducting balloting for SC kids within 1km for so many years. The difference this year is that there were many more applicants in 2A1 and 2A2. Wonder where all these old boys/girls stay in. And also, the old boys/girls seem to have SG50 kids.

I actually live within 1km of South View but I didn't apply for the school for DD1 5 years ago. Near my place we have Concord, CCK Primary and Teck Whye. For those who fail to get a place in SV this phase, they can choose among Yew Tee Pri, Kranji, Unity or Teck Whye in Phase 2C Supp, as Concord and CCKPS won't have places left after 2C.

My DD3's childcare friend is joining the ballot for SV. The mother told me, if she can't get in, she will choose one of the schools I mentioned above.

Anyway here is 2C D1 summary:

Given that the take up rate until 2B this year was comparable to last year's, 2C total applicants number should be comparable as well. Total applicants for D1 for 2C was 43% higher than last year, more people making a move early this year. Nevertheless, still have about 6k applicants yet to make the move. About 57 schools are already oversubscribed - and over 1500 will be balloted out (so far) and 2k plus will join them.

1. The proportion of applicants applying before Phase 2C against birth has increased by 1.6ppt.
2. The proportion of applicants having registered or secured a place in a school before Phase 2C against birth has increased by 1.5ppt.

1. This year, 12 schools are left with 20 places for Phase 2C. Last year, 5 schools.
2. However, for schools with 25 or less places for Phase 2C, the numbers are not dissimilar (18 this year vs 17 last year).

1. A third of the schools have around the same number of vacancy (between -5 and +5) this year and last year.
2. The rest of the gainers / losers are fairly evenly distributed.
3. Total number of places offered by schools this year > last year, despite birth rate this year < last year.

3.3k plus applied today. Another 3K+- yet to apply. also 3K will be balloted out with 77 schools oversubscribed.
34 schools already have more applicants as of day 2 now than day 3 of last year .

Northland and Sout view already 6.6 times.
St hilda and Nan hua more than 5 times
Rostyh and Rulang more than 4 times
and 9 other schools more than 3 times.
Canberra has a surge in application. The vacancy number encouraged more to try for it.

In Yishun, you have Chongfu. If people can't get in, they will choose any of the schools available in Yishun (which they probably see as no difference). In Punggol, there's Mee Toh. In Sengkang, there's Nan Chiau. In Toa Payoh, there's Pei Chun.

Just wondering why is montfort or st Stephen not as popular as other regular schools? I thought these schools at least have quite good brandname and affiliation? Esp st Stephen very popular with expats, its like studying in intl school?

I would think the drop in attendance on the forum thread is due to the inability to game the system like before because during times like these as covid, MOE rules, online registrations have changed behaviours and information that underpinned the past

Actually the level of discussion is still very high, perhaps even higher than last time, just that the discussions have moved out of the forum. In fact now people understand and know how to play around with the system better, that's why you see all the \"flight to safety\" to earlier phases, which mostly require pre-planning.

yes, possibly, the needs hasn't changed but the discussions have moved to WA and Telegram. But the level of depth in these chats are limited. Like someone pointed out, trying to locate specific threads within chats are difficult. So KSP might need a surge in interest once this is realised.

My impression of Montfort (Secondary) is the boys are not well-behaved. I don’t know about Montfort Junior. There was an article some time back about their Lego room (https://montfortjunior.moe.edu.sg/qql/slot/u527/Events/2017/ST%20article_29May.pdf) which I thought would be super fun for the boys. My BIL said he didnt have an enjoyable school life there back in his days, and chose to enrol my nephew into a neighborhood school in Sengkang instead.

Don’t know much about St Stephen’s.
