Hello, anyone knows if... example, we done registration in Phase 2B, he got in with no ballot for in Phase 2B.

Then, our BTO is ready for us during my son primary one period.
As there is no ballot done in this phase...
Do we still have to fulfil the 30-month stay requirement?

What is the 30-month stay requirement about?
Answer:
A child who gains priority admission into a school through their distance category is required to reside at the address used for registration for at least 30 months from the commencement of the 2021 P1 Registration Exercise on 30 June 2021. If this condition is not met, MOE reserves the right to transfer the child to another school with vacancies, as the priority admission to the first school was based on the declared address used for registration.

Ya, i saw this. So it would mean that as long as we didnt to go through ballot and gain admission, we can move and change our address within 30 month right?

But the keyword are “gain priority admission thru their distance category”, not “no balloting”.


So (for example), if your child got in with no balloting at 2B because all <1km no balloting, but 1-2km folks had to ballot, then you have “gained priority admission through your distance category” and should be obliged to fulfill your <1km for 30 months.

If the school ballots for PR > 2km for example, you would have to stay for 30months.

You can also call MOE to confirm.

Unfortunately there is a recent announcement, GRL will require to stay 30months even if no balloting in phase 2B…..

May I get some advise? The school I’m looking at falls under the same GRC as where I’m residing; Tanjong Pagar GRC. However the school falls under a different division from where I’m residing though we are grouped under the same GRC. So should I be calling up to be a volunteer at the division that the school is in or the division that I’m staying in? I’m quite confused. Hope to get some enlightenment! Thank you!!

Unfortunately there is a recent announcement that changed this… GRL will only be granted 2B to schools within 2km of registered address. It will no longer be tied to election boundaries…..

this is the best reply - regarding the restrictive 30month rule.

don't think in terms of balloting, think in terms of advantage gained instead.


Why?
Scenario 1
you are within 1km thus no ballot.
balloting occurred outside 2km.
--> need to fulfil 30 months as you had an advantage because of distance. (although to you, there was no balloting)

Scenario 2
you are within 1km thus no ballot.
1-2km no ballot- exact number applied vs exact places.
--> need to fulfil 30 months as you had an advantage because of distance. (although to you, there was no balloting for you, you won't be there if you stayed outside 2km)




Only way around it is:
38 places for 2b
37 applied.
all get in without balloting. (stay on Mars also got in)
--> since no distance was used to distinguish applicants, no need to fulfile 30 month rule as no advantage was gained
