Hi, have anyone check out the old RJC, holding site at Mt Sinai? My friend's son was there last year for his PSLE. I was told that the toilets are dirty and they made the P6 take their PSLE in a container because they want them to be in an air conditioned environment. I am just wondering if they are going to do the same next year cos my girl will be taking her PSLE at the holding site. Was hoping that they could do better than using a container! My friend's son said other than the air conditioned, he felt claustrophobic in such enclosed area.
I was told by my girl who is also taking PSLE next year that they will be given rooms with air-con as their classroom. These air-con rooms are only for the P6.I hope ii is not the container which your friend's son has . -

Hi there,
Although p1 no exam officially :-jacjac:
Is the stress level in rgps v high and competitive?
There are \"byte sized\" term tests conducted regularly, throughout whole year, from term 1 to 4. At the end of p1, each child's results are ranked internally. The school monitor and keep track. But the school doesn't disclose to parents what is their individual child's position, in the entire cohort. They keep it ... hush hush.
But end of p1 :-
those pupils who top their level cohort in 3 subjects (English, Maths, mother tongue (Malay, Tamil, Chinese)) will receive prizes.
P1 is not tough. If your child is doing her work consistently like can do spelling, tingxie, Han Yu pin yin, she is ok. For p1 English, they will be tested on grammar, vocab, compreh. Just ensure your child is coping well in this area.
P1 Maths is not difficult. P1, dont worry too much.
But from p2 onwards, Maths is getting tough. The problem sums start to seep in, not easy. Sometimes, p2 Maths test qns are tricky. They play around with English language, in Maths. Your child must be able to understand the p2 Maths qn first, analyze & interpret what the qn trying to test.
P1 and p2 no stress - because these are more the exploratory years, or the foundational years for languages.
Pupils from p1 to p3 remain in the same class throughout.
There is no streaming within these 3 years, but the form teachers may change each year. But classmates remain the same.
At the End of p3 to p6 :-
Stress begin to seep in - due to streaming of classes.
Many mainstream pupils and supportive parents will try to target the top 2 mainstream (e, f) classes.
In order to be within the top 80 pupils in order to get into (e, f) classes, every pupil works very hard, to her best. unlike primary schools like (mgs, scgs, chij st nicholas, girls from nanyang primary ) who have affliated secondary schools awaiting their entry at discounted psle score, our p6 girls do not have this luxury.
When come to upper primary, p5/p6 :-
===============================
Many pupils are interested to dsa into rgs secondary or nanyang girls high - particularly from the Gep students, plus a couple of high ability mainstream students.
Rgs secondary and nanyang girls high allow p6 students to dsa, via academic subjects domain. But p6 mainstream students must specify which particular subject she show particular, strong passion in - ie. is it English, Maths, science or higher mother tongue (Chinese, Malay, Tamil)?
FYI - to dsa into rgs secondary :-
Another road of dsa domain is via music / visual arts domain like (for example):-
music, violin and piano, or visual arts : sculpture, painting and drawing.
The third road of dsa domain is via sports :-
Badminton, basketball, golf, gymnastics, netball, sailing, shooting, squash, swimming, table tennis, tennis and ten pin bowling.
Every year, rgs secondary steady rate of secondary 1 cohort intake hovers around 400 pupils thereabout. Each year, via dsa route - rgs secondary can allow a maximum up to 50% (ie. 200 seats). But normally they don't fully utilize 200 seats, so many. Normally will be less than 200. The remaining balance of vacancies left - will be based on Psle score by merit, to come in.
For next year, 2014 sec 1 intake - they are targeting at 420 pupils.
I heard from a friend, if you have been selected to a certain school via DSA. And upon releasing of the PSLE score, you cannot change or apply to another Secondary of your choice. Is it true?
For example - If you apply via DSA to NUSS and got selected and you accepted it. Then upon receiving your PSLE result and realize you qualify for RGS. Can you still make the switch?

Nope. You can't. -

Can you apply to few school via DSA concurrently so that your chances of accepting into one of them is higher?Jazzie:

Eg. Apply to RGS, NYGH, NUSS concurrently. Is it allow?
Thanks. -
Jazzie:
Yes, it is allowed. However, I think it puts too much of a burden on your student to prepare and appear for multiple schools' DSA, while also preparing for the PSLE. (Not to mention the financial cost of so many schools' application fees.

If your child accept the dsa offer from nus high, you cannot make any switch over to rgs secondary later on, after Psle results are released in November. You have to honor your commitment to nus high - because you have already accepted her dsa offer. Rgs secondary will also not take in your child, knowing that she has already accepted a dsa offer from another secondary school - be it nus high or any other secondary school.jazzie:
Yes, you can apply to 3 concurrently. But you need to prepare her psychologically in advance that - if any one reject her after interview, she should not get upset, nor let it affect her mood in preparing the actual Psle. Tell her is just an experience to go through in life. Can you apply to few schools via DSA concurrently so that your chances of accepting into one of them is higher?

In the event all 3 happen to offer your daughter dsa offer, then you need to decide. You Can only accept 1, out of the 3. But once you accept, you have to honor the offer, cannot switch over to another secondary school, after the Psle results are released in November.
In the event your girl is not successful via dsa in one if the schools she likes very much - never mind. Encourage her to work harder in Psle. If her actual psle score is good, ie. can meet above the cop (cut off point), she can still enter via merit Psle results. -
Jacjac and susu3,
This is the Cdp (character devt pgm) program that our school has.
