While we wait with bated breath 😉 for the 2C balloting result, thought some people might be interested in knowing which are the schools that are heavily oversubscribed.

Northland, Nan Hua, South View
St Hilda, Princess Elizabeth, Rosyth :nailbite:

I did a https://littlereddotdata.wordpress.com/2021/08/15/phase-2c-catching-fire/ and it should be to nobody surprise that the names (65%) are nearly identical 😂 Also, it's not just elite (i.e. GEP, SAP) schools that are oversubscribed, a number of them are 'neighbourhood' schools. Parents do not seem to be deterred or put off from applying to these schools, even when the odds of getting a place in the school is low. Part of the reason has been https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=91589&start=770#p2034259, i.e. there's no 'lost' if there's a need to register in Phase 2CS since the options in Phase 2CS are almost same-same as the alternatives in Phase 2C.
Any 2CS movers and shakers? I.e. now/not available in 2021? Dramatic change in seats available?

From the link I do think this is a good quote (for those who are balloting):
\"When one door closes, another door opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.\"

I only stick to the top / bottom 10.

        Some possible explanations:

Telok Kurau and Townsville 'improvement' are due to merger with Eunos and Guangyang respectively (hence, Phase 1 will include siblings of students from both merged schools). In addition, both schools have reduced the overall number of places available (240 to 220 and 210 to 190) despite the merger. Interestingly, the other school set to merge in 2022, Farrer Park (not shown on the table), do not exhibit similar behaviour. Farrer Park has also increased their overall places available (from 180 to 220).

Angsana Primary will be relocating to a new campus by June 2022. What did we say about Singaporeans liking new, shiny thing?

Valour is a new school, as well as a MK school. Phase 1 numbers have yet to stabilise and MK Phase 2A are appearing for the first time.

Northoaks, Kranji and Si Ling are schools with reduced overall places (down by 30 each).

Naval Base is quite a turnaround! From having seats in Phase 2CS to balloting for SC < 1km within 1 year. However, it's probably not that surprising. Considering the number of new housing development along Yishun Ave 1, it's just a matter of time. Can draw certain parallels with Kheng Cheng (and housing at Toa Payoh Crest) that were discussed a couple of posts earlier (except that Kheng Cheng usually ballots in Phase 2C in one form or another).

        Marymount? 😉

Schools with increased places? Let me think, over my sleep :rotflmao:

Top 10 schools with increased vacancy for Phase 2CS:

Contrary to many people's belief (have?), schools are not necessarily in this position due to lower interest in the school.

Most schools are in this position because they have increased their overall vacancies from previous year but the demand hasn't kept up. 8 out of 10: Woodlands Ring, Bedok Green, Fuchun, Seng Kang, West Grove, Bendemeer, Xingnan, Coorporation and Damai, have increased their overall intake by 30 or 40 each. Montfort has increased the number of P1 places by 60 places and Xingnan by a whooping 90 places!

If Montfort and Xingnan have kept to the same overall intake as last year, they wouldn't have made this list (TBF, same for most of the schools named in the previous para).

TL;DR - there are lies, damned lies and statistics.
In terms of demand / actual signups, most schools are actually doing better, or about the same as last year if they have not increased the size of their intake.

Xingnan increased 90 seats due to Pioneer/Juying merger and out of action this registration exercise, but people in that area would like to try Westwood/Frontier first, followed by Jurong West/West Grove... cos they know Xingnan will have seats anyway.

Jurong is kinda foreign to me. I always thought need passport if I have to visit Jurong.

Can I interpret that since MOE did not give the breakdown of applicants requiring balloting, therefore the graph above may not be totally correct. For eg ah, northland has 28 vacancies but maybe only 30 out of 191 applicants stay within 1km so the rest of the data are redundant/misleading. I recall MOE used to provide this distance by applicant info during application stage (or was I imagining?) so not sure why they remove it.

It was your imagination…MOE never was willing to provide. The info in years long past (way before Covid) was only obtainable depending on the admin phone-answering staff’s mood or by looking at the physical white board at the schools.

Registration & balloting was heart-stoppingly exciting during DS’s time. Literally hang around the registration counter for few hours & eyeball and add up every single competitor walking in the door. Balloting also, watch the principal spin the balls in the cage round & round until one drops out like calling lottery number.

                        The good old days :rotflmao:
