Let's see how well people understand location / name of schools and electoral boundaries. Here are just 3 examples - maybe not the best examples but can do for now (you should know the first one that spans FOUR!!! electoral divisions well):

There's a different game in town now.

GRL can use Phase 2B to register at a popular girls' school in one constituency in 2022, and a popular boys' school in another constituency in 2023. All without changing address (assuming you have the 'right' address or can afford the 'right' address). Speaking of having the right address, why must my very expensive D'Leedon only entitled me to Phase 2C of a popular school when I can muscle (or ahem... finance :siam: ) my way into Phase 2B as well?

Different religious affiliation (or maybe no religious affiliation)? Who cares. Methodist - Methodist combo? How about a Methodist - Catholic combo?

The last map above is probably the most interesting (from a data perspective with regard to P1 registration). New and old BTOs (~2,000 units) across the road from the school were not part of the GRC and thus, excluded under the old policy. New policy? You don't have to join 141 people applying for 21 places when you can be part of 34 people applying for 21 places if you know what to do (should be a very compelling message for the recruitment drive of the Resident Network :yikes: ).

Still not a game changer?

I have almost zero knowledge when it comes to Grassroots route, hence gotta trouble you and other expert parents here on how the new Phase 2B rule may impact me.

If we have places both within 1km of SJIJ and 1km of Catholic High, how would we be affected by the new regulation? Meaning increase in even more applicants from other areas/district, if yes which areas would that be? A great ecample you pointed out would be Aljunied GRC GRL applying to Rosyth now. I understand that both schools, esp Cath High is already very much in demand to begin with. Would really like to understand more of this topsy turvy phase 2B to enable us make calculated risk and better decision. Many thanks in advance.

For CHS, it is now located in Marymount SMC. The SMC was cut out from the old Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC.
Without the supposedly new policy, you will actually see LESS GRL applying via Phase 2B because the SMC (which is basically the old Bishan North constituency) has fewer GRL. However, with the new policy, likely to see the numbers of GRL applying Phase 2B remaining unchanged. Hence, no increase in applicants (but it would have been lesser if the old policy holds).

SJIJ is where you may see new GRL from Tanjong Pagar GRC applying. The private houses on both sides of Newton Road (i.e. the Gilstead Road and Lincoln Road area) as well as the houses around Farrer Park Primary School are all within 1km of SJIJ. How much more? I doubt many. Those on Newton Road could well be looking at ACSP and those at Farrer Park could well be looking at Hong Wen.

That said, I don't think having more or less GRL will really move the needle very much (I may be wrong though ) for both schools. I have assumed the majority of Phase 2B applicants to both schools are Catholics, which aren't affected by any electoral boundaries.

We will be staying right beside Nanhua..but still they won'r prioritize by distance and everyone under 1km will ballot together right?

Hi, I am thinking of joining as GRL for my current GRC but it is likely we will move in the next couple of months. We are not sure which area we are moving to at the moment so I was wondering if my “tenure” at the current GRC will be able transferable.


Or should I just wait and move first then join the GRC in my new place? I tried to read through most of the posts and I read that it is up to the discretion of my new GRC and some might not be receptive. Are there any changes to this?

Would any of the existing GRLs here be able to provide some guidance or advice based on your experience in your GRCs and whether they are receptive to “transfer” members or prefer “new” members?

It’s simply that the rc is full.
All executive members guarding their seats well, for one reason to another that is irrelevant to the discussion here.

i am new here and would like to seek your advice.

i would need to apply for primary school in 2023 for my daughter and i am targeting Nanyang Primary School. I am currently an EM (just for 1 month) in Tanjong Pagar GRC for almost one year. I am intending to move to 1km before the registration.

my question
1) if I move to the new address which is 1km to Nanyang primary, can i still use the grassroot letter from current GRC for 2B? or do i need to transfer my EM to the new RC/NC in the new address?
2) for renting a property near the target school, do i have to stay in the same address for 30 months? can it be like staying there for a few months and transfer to another address but still within 1km?
