      Hi Putien!

Yes, this is something our team has thought about and wrestled with.

Our goal is to provide transparency on where a child is weak at prior to taking a national level examination. Having gone through the system ourselves, we believe it’s beneficial to help parents know where their child stands so that they can take targeted action!

Coming from different schools, we can see how some children are better prepared than others. We understand that every school should be equal and would like to help bridge any gaps while MOE takes steps to ensure all students have access to the same quality/rigour in preparation for national level exams!

If every child can achieve the same AL, great! The data should also reflect that - granting parents a peace of mind.

      Thanks for your feedback though!

        .....
Btw, my P5’s Semester 1 HDP shows the raw whole number marks (which is optional, according to MOE) alongside the AL band. How about your school P5?[/quote]
Finally got the HDP back. We also have the raw whole number marks alongside the AL band. I suspect this is the standard issue..

At least get 4 days off next week to prep a bit for the WA3s in week 8 and week 9. This term too compressed with WA2 carryover from pre-fHBL...

Thx for sharing. My tutors have already slotted in additional morning tuition on those 4 days off, to ramp up revision for WA3. This term was really far too short for the school to do much. Not to mention no resumption of supplementary lessons at all.

Picture compo for CL (from this year’s Term 3 WAs):

            1. 诚实/路不拾遗 - saw a handphone left on a seat in shopping mall; returned it to the information counter
            2. 孝顺父母/物轻情义重 - girl wanted to get Fathers’ Day gift but did not have enough money; ended up baking a cake for her father instead

Just wondering whether it’s common practice for schools NOT to return the EL Compo and CL zuowen question papers?

It’s really quite hard for parents to review the accuracy of our child’s story if we can’t see the actual pictures given!

Anyway, based on DS’ WA2 CL zuowen script, I am guessing the pictures looked like this:
              1. protagonist and friend walked to convenience store to buy ice cream
              2. after paying for the ice cream, they ate while walking to the bus stop
              3. at the bus stop, they sat and waited for their bus
              4. when bus arrived, protagonist suddenly discovered that his EZ-link card (helping word given was 车资卡) was missing.
              5. both boys ran back to the convenience store
              6. (?) create your own ending.

                Thanks for sharing, zac’s mum.

The practice seems to vary across schools - some only allow the students to view in school. For those that allow students to bring back the Paper 1 scripts, the exact graded marks usually aren’t written on them. Instead, students will be given a mark range.

                  Yes, because
                  Paper 1 is subjective.

Some schools don't allow students to bring home their marked Paper 1 languages scripts,

                  because

they don't want parents (eg. Tiger moms) after seeing their kid's marked scripts, to come back

haggle / demand from their class languages' Teachers for extra 1 or 2 or 3 marks for (English composition or zuo wen) , so that their child can attain a better AL score in languages, to apply for DSA, that kind of un-wanted scenario.
                  Example

let's say your P6 child intend to apply for DSA Academic subject domain in

(English or Chinese or Bilingual), where ideally, their kid's

                  (P5 year end SA2 or
                  P6 Mid-year SA1)
languages' score, is an AL \"1\" (90 marks & above)

Marking Paper 1 languages scripts, is subjective.

It is different from marking subjects (Maths & Science or marking languages Paper 2 )

                  because

students' (Maths & Science or component languages Paper 2) answers -
                  are very clear cut !

If the answer students written is wrong, it is wrong. Very obvious! But not so, for languages' Paper 1 : subjective, to opinion

                    Thx for both your comments!

Looks like I’m considered blessed to receive back the actual marked script with the Content & Language mark allocations. I can see what exactly my child wrote & what kind of marks that standard will get. Even if no qn/pictures given, I can roughly guess what they were. And I can also guess the helping words given.

Very pai seh to show his marks here, but for learning purposes, let other parents know what type of marks this type of writing will get in P5. I consider his essay just minimally coherent & plenty of room for improvement. Thankful did not fail. Cheering the progress from P3 till now & always grateful to Chenlaoshi’s help along the way too.

Yes, his CL WA2 was solely testing on Zuowen. I’m sure the standard is nowhere near your girls’ 😂
