To the parent who raised this about sharing rooms ... having shared rooms before would have an impact on this in boarding school??? my son shares a room with 2 siblings at home - i guess he'll be happy to have the extra space in boarding school then! haha!!!...<snip>....
About the boarding school programme-I once share a room with two other classmates.There were two single beds in that room,seperated by a drawer.Hence,I shared the bed with a girl,while the other gets her own bed. I'm used to sharing rooms at home too

About the quoting,will post in another post.Have to go back to so many pages.But basically its the parents' commenting that JH1 students don't really get much homework,come home still can read books etc..
About the amount of homework - i must say it varies. There may be lesser homework, but more projects and presentations, and that involves group meetings on-site as well as online. after the initial 'honeymoon', my boy, by Term 2, was up until 10 -11pm each nite completing their assignments plus studying for tests. Regular school classes for him ends anything between 3.30pm to 6pm (longer than mainstream secondary schools). And then he has CCA around 2x to 4x a week, staying back until 7pm for some CCAs(eg. canoeing) and 8 or 9pm for some other CCAs when there are performances. And that's why he has to work later into the night for his schoolwork. He's disciplined enough to get to school early most mornings (before 7am) so that he can finish up anything that he didn't manage to the night before, including the days when school only starts 8.30am.
So can't say it's really all that free. -

I think I am one of the mums who posted \"come home still can read books\". My boy has no sch CCA, unlike phankao's boy. So for my boy, it is straight to home after sch or sch project discussions.
Relaxed or not really depends on individual.
We were also influenced into choosing NJC after talking to a JH1 girl last year. During the orientation, we found out that she is one of the OGL. I believe her views were biased. Come to think of this, she kept saying NJ is very fun, the sch organised many fun activities. As for my boy, to him all schs are the same. He only does not want all boys sch n not too far from home.
Btw, are you aware that JH1 n JH2 must take HCL? I find the way HCL is taught in NJC does not prepare my boy well for sec sch lvl vocabulary. Hence we changed the tuition from compo to enrichment in term 2.

I prefer projects to homework anytime though.Like working with people,hearing the different thoughts and cracking some jokes. -
As for the boarding programme, we can only tell in term 4 (JH1 boards in term 4).

CAFE is abbrev. for sth, offhand cant recall exactly. It's related to CCA. At the start of term 1, each student is given a list of CCAs to choose from for each term. Each term one new CCA. Very limited choices. But a student can still join other CCAs when the CCA recruitment begins (at least this is what I understand from my boy). -

Last year, I accompanied one of my younger cousins (took PSLE 2009) and my younger sister to NJC's open house 2009.There are still some things which we are not clear till today, could you pls help to answer:
(1)Why is it compulsory to take HCL for JH1 and JH2 but you are given an option to either take HCL or CL from JH3 onwards?
(2) NJC's grading system is different from most IP schools.Some use 75 and above for A1 and 80 and above for a GPA score of 4 (A+) whereas NJC's A plus or A star is 85 and above, is this correct?
(3) Is there any streaming from JH3 onwards? Or do they continue with IS, IH, LA all the way from JH1 to JH4?Jennifer:
