One nuance is that is something is known or planned well in advance, it is easy to deal with. I don't know how much behind the scenes lead time the schools/teacher were given for this though. Obviously the more the better, as it is not an easy period for them (teachers) either...

Yes, as far back as pre-covid. This time round P4s were supposed to return to school for in-person lessons on 05+06/10; then it's P5s' turn to HBL 05+06/10. For non-graduating cohorts, psle period's schedule is tweaked every so often - the idea is to minimise distractions

IMO, children are the super spreader. Although children will not get seriously ill if infected. But because they scream, cry, talk loudly and poor in hygiene practices plus they don’t mask up properly.

Really? I think it is more difficult to get the old folks at Chinatown and the hawkers to wear their masks properly as compared to the P1-P5s.

If children are super spreaders, then why are kindergartens and childcare centres (toddlers who will cry and scream more) still open?

Evidence thus far showed that we do not have clusters in schools unlike what we have seen in hawker centres / wet markets.

So far, I think the schools are doing a very good job. Most students caught covid from their own family members.

Actually, P1 to P3 are still very far away from PSLE. Even if HBL, is ok. P1 and P2, are effectively honeymoon years. So, even if HBL, no impact.

As for P3,
PSLE is another 3 long years away from P3 ! 3 years away is a long time. Thus, also perfectly all right to proceed with HBL.

P4 :
because got end of the year P4 streaming exercising, so maybe should not HBL.

P5 :
because very close to PSLE, also should not HBL.

I agree. We’ve to u’stand our geographical environment is diff.

We’ve neigbouring countries in worst situation. Our controls hv to take into account of a dense population in smaller space unlike well spread out population in NZ or the US. HK pop generally look after their own as ‘scared to die’ type and will surely mask up more to protect self then obey govt. Some may fight against any suggestion to bend to China but given less choice, some alr bending to vaccinate tho earlier, they’ve to be ‘bribe’ with winning an apt or sth to entire the population to vaccinate.

I wonder how our numbers will climb if our frontliners hv not been organized & given resources at NCID or Trace-Together hv not been implemented for alerts & wld we be able to pick ppl up for not cooperating in absence of SA? Even with well spaced countries, numbers are shooting uncontrollably & Australia hv to go into lockdown several times for a country who love the outdoors & freedom of movement. Don’t think it’s easy to hv SA for a country with Lady of Liberty ruling abv them when groups will protests against govt suggesting masks wearing & vaccines and many still stubbornly protests they’ve been safe w/o masks since last year, forgetting they’re safe whilst millions hv alr lost their lives.

We shld do our part to bear with the inconveniences & find ways to circumvent negative impacts, including finding creative alternatives to engage our young & old to maintain a close to sane life midst covid & it’s variant rearing head. Don’t act rashly to frustrate the frontliners’ sacrificial effort to help keep the sick recover fr covid whilst their families are just as neglected or compromised with danger of catching covid brought home unknowingly.

I agree. I think the primary age kids are one of the most compliant groups out there. While this could be debatable, I also think they are reasonably alert to what they are doing (as it pertains to hygiene and behavior that increases/decreases risk of transmission). As a hypothetical safe distancing officer, I see a lot more infractions from adults walking around on the street, on transport, at mall, at hawker centre, etc vs. what I see from the kids when at my child's school.
