As I mentioned earlier, today’s ICU cases were from infected cases 2 weeks back. Usually it takes 2 weeks for complications to appear and the patient’s condition deteriorates till he needs ICU.
The important no. is how many seriously ill, and how many in ICU. Currently still under 200 in total (ICU under 20). It does not take 2 weeks for complications from Delta to arise and for the patient's condition to deteriorate till ICU is required.
Look at the last few deaths:
Fatality no. 60: 90 year-old died 18 Sept. Tested positive 17 Sept.
Fatality no. 59: 72 year-old died 16 Sept. Symptoms developed 4 Sept. Tested positive 6 Sept.
Fatality no. 58: 80 year-old died 10 Sept. Symptoms developed 4 Sept. Tested positive 9 Sept.
Fatality no. 57: 62 year-old died on 6 Sept (reported on 9 Sept). Brought to hospital for unrelated condition on 20 July and tested positive the next day.
Fatality no. 56: 93 year-old died on 8 Sept. Developed symptoms on 2 Sept. Taken to NCID and tested positive on 5 Sept. -

... Also, the few classmates who did not vaccinate immediately, got themselves vaccinated later on too. So, no worries for us. But, if unvaccinated, yes there will be worries, cos frens/ schoolmates around us are receiving SHN etcetera

Local media should do their part by diverting people’s attention away from those daily 4D nos, new clusters, etc. I don’t see developed countries reporting so actively and loudly like us.
If you just duly update your MOH website (and inform WHO our daily nos), that’s good enough. As the saying goes, out of sight, out of mind. Make people forget about the nos so we can be less obsessed every night. Every midnight, a lot of people are in eager anticipation of the latest magic no. We need to collectively wean ourselves off such mundane news.
Why bother? For unvaccinated people with comorbidities, they won’t have nABs to defend the virus for too long, and moreover 生老病死 人之常情. Juxtapose those Covid deaths with other dengue/flu deaths so people will see it’s no big deal.
Orchard Road shopping malls were full house last night. There were so many pedestrians walking along Orchard Road. Long queues outside restaurants as families were celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival. I had to wait for an hour to get a table. Inside the restaurant, I could see many grey-haired active agers dining with their adult children.
I don’t know if the increase is due to the Home Recovery programme that has just been extended to persons up to 69yo. It is a big incentive for us to dine-out and shop. There’s no inconvenience to us now because we feel more at ease and safe isolating in the comfort of our own house. Moreover, fully vaccinated only need to isolate for roughly 7-10 days and if tests show negative or low viral load (i.e. still technically positive), we can be discharged earlier than what was required. -

To be honest i think the vocal ones are in the minority. You know, the ones who frequent hardwarezone and Straits Times Facebook. And most likely to be single adult males in theirs 20s and 30s.

They feed on the hysteria and keep demanding lockdowns and HBL. Parents like us with family and work commitments simply cannot afford constant disruptions to our lives. We just have to soldier on to this endemic living. -

The blame is on delta variant which is super transmissible etc

Is a very huge jump, many thought under control ...[/quote]The MTF has said many times that the virus will become endemic (Cambridge dictionary: regularly found and very common among a particular group or in a particular area). It is impossible that the cases should stay under 1000 when restrictions are relaxed, and probably will increase vastly. This doesn't mean that it is out of control - it is expected. The important thing is that the no. of seriously ill stay low; the total no. of cases is not important. Yes, the total no. of cases will influence the no. of seriously ill, but it seems that the increase in the no. seriously ill is not rising as fast as the total no. That shows that the situation is not of concern. -

Cannot compare like that lar. Last year I was in fact genuinely worried because if kena COVID higher risk of serious symptoms. But now I am fully vaccinated and also after reading from Facebook personal experiences of a few friends who contracted COVID overseas and recovered easily because they are vaccinated, I actually am mentally prepared to eventually contract COVID.
A year ago, none were vaccinated and hence we had many cases.
