              That's because perhaps
your child's primary school Maths Teacher have ever exposed them to practise such questions before, so before they enter the exam hall, their mind already pre-conditioned such that

\"if you happen to come across these type of questions, ah, you can solve it using Algebra method very fast , or use some other method as long as you can see it or grasp it\". And because you have practised before, so you become familiarised

But for those primary schools who have never exposed their P6 students to such questions
before, and if the P6xer were to encounter it for the first time in their life, under Psle tense exam condition where every minute the clock tick tock tick tock very fast, they may panic. The more they panic, the more they cannot think properly, cannot solve, under exam condition .

              ==========================

However, the feedback was that because
primary school students had been taught using the \"model\" method since lower primary introduced by Yeap Ban Har years ago or students had been taught heuristics, so when they come to P6, some students \"their mind haven't opened yet\", some of them also find it hard to connect the dots or \"see\" or \"grasp\" the Algebra method, which is taught in Lower Secondary, Sec 1. In other words, at P6, not many P6 students may know how to apply the Algebra method

It is strictly not allow in problem solving. you will get only answer mark but not working mark.

I believe the all the P6 teacher has highlight this issue to the students many times. Strictly NO algebra allow, else no mark will be given for the working.

My son and I clarified with my teachers as he uses algebra very frequently. It is allowed and can be used.

If the teacher really say that to your son, then good luck to your son.

The P6 algebra taught is very basic. The school taught using heuristics method and if your son use other method not taught in school, he will be given only answer marks. It is unfair to other students who did not learn advance algebra other than taught in school.

Use algebra to get answer mark only unless you can't do solve it using heuristics.[/quote]Algebra is certainly allowed, as confirmed by my 2 kids who did psle both this year and last year. Just that the teacher wants them to define like “let u be units and p for parts”.

Well, depend how you form the equation. Algebra can be derived from the sentence. Unit and part equation normally derive from heuristic approach and both the equations are different.

When the marker see the equation, immediately they will know.

If your kids using part and unit, well, good job and full mark for them.

so far, based on above discussion, only 1 question is deemed difficult, out of the entire two Maths papers (1 and 2), because don’t see students bring out other challenging Maths questions.

If is only just 1 difficult question, then cannot conclude that Maths is tough, because in order to segregate out the (AL 1 vs. AL 2) students, definitely they have to set some tough questions. Otherwise, everyone will score AL 1, for today Maths

There is definitely more than 1 question that is difficult. In fact, there are numerous. It just isn't brought out yet as the students forgot how the question was.

If students in Singapore came out of the exam crying, it can't be over just one question.
