Were they asymptomatic? If so, they only were detected because they were asked to test. There will be many more who live in blissful ignorance that they have contracted Covid because they don't test. I don't know the numbers, but I'm sure there are many more seniors who haven't contracted Covid than have. I don't think we are going to see a sharp reduction of that age group.
I find your words familiar, I think Trump said that. US had a lot of cases because they test a lot.
In DH’s workplace, 5 staff tested positive after taking ART, of which, 3 were cleaners. Maybe a lot of the seniors who caught COVID got it from workplace (cleaners, hawkers etc). At the rate of infection and deaths (9 seniors passed on yesterday), I won’t be surprised if there will be cleaners crunch shortlylee_yl\" post_id=\"2041075\" time=\"1633497603\" user_id=\"17023:
The thinking is still very much \"everyone will take precautions to protect the vulnerable\" rather than \"teach the vulnerable how to take precautions to protect themselves\". There needs to be that switch in mindset before we can truly go \"endemic\".
Really blissful ignorance? Those who are asymptomatic may pass the virus to their aged parents (or young kids).
Like Taiwan some months back, don’t know why only 200+ cases per day but 20+ deaths daily.
Our death rates are also growing exponentially month on month:
August = 18
Sept = 40
Oct = 33 for first 5 days.
Likely to hit 160+ for this month of Oct.
How about Nov? Worst case could hit 160 X 8 = 1280 deaths! -
For those working overseas coming home see family… there may be worries of able to come back home but may face restrictions when going back there?

Yes, students studying overseas may return home (Singapore), for year-end school holiday & Christmas. But come January next new academic year 2022, going back to overseas for studies may be an issue, after the freezing

Ice- cold harsh winter. I missed the good, old pre-covid days very much, where we had so much freedom -
Just hope that the day when our health is less clean than our street…won’t arrive.

Trump spoke pre-vaccination. Now, the situation is different and most who get the virus do not end up seriously ill. Policies have to flex depending on the situation.

Those who have vulnerable at home will have to take more precautions, or have the vulnerable take more precautions. The balance of policy has to shift with the times. -

An unfortunate fact is that our death rate is now significantly higher than pre-vaccination times!!

While 98% of the positive cases has mild or no symptoms, 2% may end up with a serious condition and if the daily numbers are high, 2% can be very significant
We are in a bipolar situation, most will be ok even if infected but a significant segment of the population will be extremely vulnerable and the challenge is how as a society we can continue taking care of the vulnerable minority. -

That's exactly what we have been told to expect. Andemic mah.

Don't think there's much we can do about the rising death toll...We will hit 5,000 positive cases next weekend. 10,000 by end-Oct.
Gan KY has gone to US. Heard MTI is talking to US and more EU countries on VTLs.

For info, effective today 7 Oct, ICA has discreetly reduced the consecutive no of days from 21 days to 14 days that one must stay in Cat 1-4 countries (incl the 2 VTL countries) before they're allowed to enter Singapore. -

Copied over from the 2021 PSLE thread. To me, kick the can down the road makes catching up harder. Teach something this year but test next year means you still need to review this materials next year (i.e. less time for everything that would normally come next year). Second, if your exam usually tests 5 concepts but now you are trying to jam in 6-7 because of carryover from the prior year (i.e. really trying to catch up), it is difficult to have the appropriate mix of so called easy, average, and hard questions for all of the topics. I'm actually not sure if the common last topics will be added back to PSLE anytime soon. Of course, eventually they can just tell everyone \"figure out\" how to catch up but this may not be so easy for some to implement without a flood of complaints (not that the complaints themselves make it good or bad).
Actually, if they are ending HBL and getting the kids to go back to school next week... they could have conducted the exams. Si mi \"allow more time for curriculum recovery due to disruptions brought about by COVID-19\"... just test them on what they have learnt rather than kick the can down the road to next year and then if they realize they are behind, they will have even more to catch up on.
I'm just glad the P5s are having SA2. With no SA1, I just want to see where my girl stands at this point. Good, ok, or bad, just need to know and move on from there.
