Do you think Sci is the worst subject hit by Covid?
-
Probably different for every kid. However, science already suffers from having relatively fewer time blocks per week than the other graded subjects. Additionally, I think some science concepts are “taught by doing” - not sure how much of this has been possible online? If removed or done in limited capacity, it may have impacted certain kids more than others depending on their learning style.

acidjazz, you are not the only one who feels the difference. My nieces and nephews are also feeling the same. MOE has already publicly acknowledged already. It is all spelled out in the news. HBL is not sufficiently substitute to classroom learning. The depth and learning experiences will never be the same.

Same here. My 2 younger daughters have this issue too. I think this is related to science requiring more experiential learning and also in-person student engagement.
I compared my P4 kid's learning with his older siblings, I feel that he does not know quite a fair bit of things in the assessment book and the textbooks are so thin with little content.
Do you feel the same or it's just my kid? Trying to get a sense of new norms. Thank you.
HBL was the least conducive for my youngest, so I had to get external help in science for her, which is why I signed her up for science enrichment at Pique Lab. -

HBL is definitely just temporary, as schools dumped video conferencing the moment restrictions are lifted. Hang in there. We all hate HBL
-
Gah. Really no mood to work today. What time is the announcement gonna be?? After lunch break?? After dinner??
-
Very hard to live with HBL to be honest. Once the laptop is given to the primary school kid, the damage is…considering SA2 is just around the corner. Best is still to attend school.

Do introduce hands-on Science experiment for Primary School children. They will observe better, ask more question and discover more on their own. For instance, on the topics of Electricity and Energy, go to Sim Lim square to buy electrical circuitry components. Like small light bulbs, crocodile clip wires etc for electricity topics. Setup door bell or door bell sensor. For Digestive system, create the system by using recycled products etc. Setup roller coaster sets to explain types of Energy. Every topic, come up with experiment for hands-on. Explore for more ideas in the youtube. Sometime even kitchen stuff can also be used for Science, for instance the use of thermal pot. Remember Science OE is all about application. When play with the experiment, get the children to explain the process flow. It is more intuitive learning for young children. That is probably what is lacking when doing HBL as compared to classroom settings.
Alternatively can also buy some stuff or get some ideas from this website.
