Craze for Children's Books!

My 6yo & 8yo boys are currently crazy over \"Beast Quest\" books. Every time we go to shopping centres, they will ask if there's any Popular Bookstore there, so that they each can wheedle a Beast Quest book from us. Each book costs $11-13. There's like 6-7 series with 6 books per series. My kids intend to collect all the books. Can go bankrupt! :shock:

my ds also like it, i thought abit wasteful to buy and keep so we borrow from the library.

Personally, my girl loves the rainbow magic series and books on animals. I have also bought \"The Giving Tree\" after recommendation from one of the parent in this forum, THKS!!

wondering how much you got it? over S$30? but the feel of the paper, binding of the book and typeface of the stories make it a real gem worth owning.
Silverstein was very particular in this repect and he chose the type size shape colour and quality of the paper himself....

I typically like to borrow also from library, but where the books are non-fiction (ie can last a few reads), I tend to buy these instead (rather than having to keep scouring the library to find the books). With the USD and pound so low, books from these countries are really cheap.

Rainbow magic series on sale at Bookpeople website. 42 books for 20pounds, but they only deliver to UK address (unless you use vpost/borderlinx/whatever).

Beast quest packs available at Scholastic.co.uk in varied forms. This one delivers worldwide.
eg of BQ mega pack (6 series in all) for close to 80pounds.

MPH is out of stock for this book and is selling at $45....it's so expensive for a children book. Beside online purchase, any idea where can I find this?

These books are all hardcover, so tend to be pricey. Borders may stock it - so if there is coupon for more than 30%, grab that coupon and try. But I would say, it's not quite popular in library (unlike G. Stilton books), so if you prefer, go library and borrow. I know Geylang East Library has a good selection of these.

Sorry, but $45 a book is way too daunting for me.

I just checked, bookdepository.co.uk has Nicholas books. About USD18 (SGD about 26). Delivery is included. I think this is a pretty good price.

I recently borrowed Smelly Bill books (author is Daniel Postgate) from JP section (preschooler) of the library. I have so far seen 3 related titles (Smelly Bill, Smelly Bill Again, Smelly Bill in love).

It's about a dog who is very smelly becos he doesn't like to bathe. His nemesis is Great Aunt Bleach (GAB) who likes to clean everything and never shys away from a challenge. The books are typically about the cleaning war between GAB and Smelly Bill (and sometimes plus his gang) - GAB usually emerges the winner.

Books are written in a rhyming style with big fonts, colourful pictures, and picturesque words. My 3y/o and 6 y/o kids loved it becos it's full of action and drama (I had to read the warring parts thrice for my kids in 1 sitting). Books not thick, can finish easily in minutes.

DS loves Beast Quest books too but I find it really tough to get it in the libraries (usually on loan) or they may not have the latest series... Besides buying from Popular when they are having 20% discount, I will also rent it from Sans Bookstore (just have to warned DS not to cut out the cards) else it will be considered sold :shock:

I think I ever saw Little Men set selling on bookpeople or something. Check: Bookpeople selling complete Mr Men 46 titles for 29.99 pounds (but currently out of stock). At this price you get free shipping within UK, then just arrange for Borderlinx/vpost to send to you. Not sure really how much the shipping will cost.

Alternatively, wait for MPH sale. I have seen on some occasions them coming out with many many such books - in fact, I helped a friend get the entire set during one of the sales. All went at $3 per book (after discount it was more like $1.80).

Although MPH sale does depend on luck (I was lucky to see the MPH guy place the whole lot), you may like to query the staff (find those friendly looking ones lah) - they have TREASURES inside the unopened cartons.
