There are specifically 6 special programmes and none of them includes 3rd language. So, yes, should be able to take SMTP and 3rd language.
I read from school website that \"Students who are eligible for Academic Special Programmes are only allowed to take one Special Programme.\" and the ASP includes SMTP and even 3rd language. Does it mean students who are interested in SMTP will have to give up 3rd language ? any one here takes both SMTP and 3rd lang ? Not sure if I understand this correctly. TIA ! -

Special programmes and 3rd language are not mutually exclusive. The real consideration is the workload. It is not advisable to take 10 subjects. So if one is taking 3 Sciences (with 2 at Advanced level), plus 2 humanities, definitely not advisable to take 3rd language as the 10th subject.

And to add on to my previous post, sec 3 students also have to do SIA (Student Initiated Assignment). If you are taking Special Program, the SIA will be a rather academically rigorous and time-consuming one.

Hi
When will we know the subjects that the child enrolled to? I know my child selected some advance and heard there is selection exam -
Thanks SWC and Timmy, i am also concern about workload as DD is interested in 9-subj 3S and continue 3rd Lang . Now even want to try advance Science and SMTP … i feel plus SIA , just too much… how can students manage…so saw this line tot its a requirement from school she has to give up one. Can they drop any if they cant manage or results slip ?

I think there are MSG requirements to take 10 subjects. To take 9 subj, the requirement is MSG below 2.5, am I right?

According to sch, once selected to special program like advanced subjects or smtp, usually students can cope and no one has dropped before (administratively also difficult as it might entails changing form class?) To take 9 subjects req below 2 msg. To take 10 subjects req special approval.

The girls who want to take advanced subjects have to finish the selection tests first. Then those who pass the selection tests will receive notification. Then all the girls will submit their combination choices. Then notified of their combi allocated to them. Detailed timeline should have been provided to all the sec 2 students. I remember the whole process ended sometime 3rd week of Nov.
