With AL6, is it safe to put RI as first choice. Pls advice.

Be very careful as the system has changed. If you miss RI, then you will be disadvantage when you go for your second choice. Those 4 points, 5 points and even 6 points with First choice will be ahead of you. They will enter first as you are choosing the school as second choice. And if you choose a strong school like HCI in your second choice and miss it again; you will be even more disadvantaged in the 3rd choice.

Not only the 4 pointers and 5 pointers are ahead of you; but the 6 pointers with first choice and 6 pointers with second choice will enter first before you. So your 3rd choice school, you must be very sure even with 6 points and choosing school as 3rd choice you can get in else will go to fourth choice........

The system has changed.

First choice must take some care. Second maybe.
Third you are free to let go and whack…
There are very little 6 point COP schools left after the first 2 options, ie what you put as 3rd choice is more or less confirmed your final fallback position.
TRUE! But also good for parents to know that COP can change! The cop parents received as indicative guide is based on psle 2020. This year psle 2021, COP can go up or go down...........

For second choice, choose something else, don't repeat the top 4 into 2nd choice, will be wasting your choice. Likely the COP for top 4 this year will be close.

Hi, thanks so much. We live in the east, nearest MRT Mountbatten. Can i check again that appealing might not help? He wants to do everything he can to boost his results 😢 thanks for your time.

Just assure him that the results are good and move on (it's not worth paying $$ per subject to request MOE to review - they only check whether got admin or calculation error - also no guarantee the mark will improve after review).

You may want to try 1st choice Tanjong Katong Secondary (14), small chance that maybe if the cut off moves downwards this year, will get in.

2nd to 6th choices to consider:
- Ngee Ann Secondary (16) - (Tampines East MRT DTL)
- Bedok View Secondary School (18) - Tanah Merah MRT (EWL)
- Pasir Ris Secondary School (18) - Tampines MRT (EWL/DTL)
- Bedok South Secondary School (19) - Tanah Merah MRT (EWL)
- Guangyang Secondary School (21) - Bishan MRT (CCL/NSL)
- Broadrick Secondary (22) - Dakota MRT CCL
- Manjusri Secondary (22) - Ubi MRT DTL (change over at Macpherson CCL/DTL interchange)
- Outram Secondary School (22) - 33min via bus #16
- Changkat Changi Secondary (22) - Simei MRT EWL

Hai Sing Catholic School will relocate to temp site from Jan 2023 to Dec 2024 for upgrading. Something to take into consideration.

9 Pasir Ris Drive 6, S519421
The school will relocate to 15 Pasir Ris Street 21, Singapore 518969, from January 2023 to December 2024 (tentative), as the current campus will be undergoing upgrading.

Can consider Hai Sing Catholic School (Pasir Ris) if you are planning to drive your child to school and arrange private transport back home.

How come I feel the new system make the entry to top school even harder.. in the old system, if have a few subject close to the top mark.. can bring up the total score.. now miss by some narrow marginsin each AL bands, can make a big difference..
That is true... but last time policemen also wore shorts 😂

Singapore is currently in a weird position. On one hand, we want to relax the system just like UK easing their UK GCE system, and yet, on the other, we need to keep improving to keep our competitive edge. And to \"improve\", on the education scene, means to keep learning more things. The things that our kids learn these days will definitely be much more than what we learnt in school when we were young. But they also have access to things that we do not have: the Internet, smart phones, computers, etc. These things are supposed to make their education more efficient and effective... but of course, they can be used in a negative way.

So, I pity today's kids. But I'm happy that our exams are not \"dumbed down\" and are still in place to streamline people to the roles most suited to each individual. There are things in the new system that I don't like, eg. the \"balloting\" some applicants to elite schools will have to go through. But all in all, I'm ok with the new system so far.

Hi my DD has AL14 and may I seek the following advice:

1) should I appeal to review math and science which she get AL5. For EL and MT it’s AL2. I thought science paper was easy so can’t fathom why she got AL5
2) any advice for girls school for AL14 - distance doesn’t matter but single sex school matters to her. How do I order my 6 choices pls for strategic reasons
3) What is AL14 equivalent to in the T-score? And AL2 is A while AL5 is C?

Really await your advice thanks.
