Yes, I understand what you mean....Really in a dilemma
1 to 2 points in AL is not equivalent to 1 to 2 points in t-score terms. That additional 1 to 2 points in AL term is very big in terms of raw scores.
Usually to play safe, apply for school 1-2 point lower than the cut-off points.. Year to Year comparision is usually +- 1 point only.. For 2 point away from the cut off point, it is VERY RISKY. Not worth the risk. But you can try if u really want too.. but chances are very low in my view...optrex80\" post_id=\"2048125\" time=\"1637808608\" user_id=\"72116:
Hello
Can someone advise me please.
My child scored a total of 15.
Do you think its ok for me to apply for school with 13 as cut off point? Please help. This AL system is soo tough
e.g AL13 COP, the lowest possible t-score can now go as low as 217 if a student score say 90 85 75 45. (1 2 4 6)
Which mean, for 2021 schools with AL13 COP last year will see most AL13 students vying for the last place.
If your child has AL15 score, even AL15 COP school may be risky because AL15 can now go include t-score 195 (extreme case) if student score 90\t85\t45\t45 (1 2 6 6).
As MOE has mentioned, under AL system, more students are being pushed up to take express streams, which mean there can only be more competition. -

2020 MGS COP for IB program was 257 or AL6, whereas RGS COP for 2020 was 261 or AL6.
MGS IB cop 5 then she can't make it. Cop 6 then she may end up ballot. Then the f don't get that 2nd choice risky if cop is 7 or 8 all those put first choice with 5/6 points in and full?sportyger\" post_id=\"2048168\" time=\"1637811178\" user_id=\"28161:
Daughter got AL6(M), thinking of putting MGS IB as first choice and St Nicks IP as second choice. Do you all think it's OK?
MGS 2020 indicative AL COP is based on the actual last student PSLE result, it doesnt take into account the possibility for the 257 (AL6) students changing their mind and apply to RGS in 2020 because under t-score, that was not possible.
So for 2021, its possible that RGS make attract or steal more 1st choice AL6 applicants from MGS. So AL6 students applying 1st choice for MGS may end up having a higher chance. -

Do we need AL score of 8 to do 3rd language? if the form doesn't come with the results means cannot take? -
My daughter scored AL 19 this year. Please help to suggest secondary schools nearby ang mo kio area.

Based on new AL system, all AL 5 will be awarded EEIS. Imagine if a few students who gotten AL 5 didn’t receive EEIS letter, MOE will receive complains as it will not be fair. Last year EEIS based on T-score is 261.

Thanks for the replies. It's really quite difficult to choose this year with hardly any past years records based on AL scoring except for 2020 translated results from t-score. So much uncertainty and even when we so call meet the COP, its still so risky.

Agree. Under AL, very hard to choose Secondary schools, because of the Order imposed, even if u do meet the COP for the school, headache

Imp75\" post_id=\"2048044\" time=\"1637799869\" user_id=\"2358:Apparently, some schools still do. In the past, they prob announced the number of students scoring above a certain tscore and now they continue with this practice, except now they announce the number of students scoring AL8 and better (or AL9 and better as seen below).
I also have photos of a few schools sharing their AL8 and better. And the number is different from below so there must be many more schools who still do it.FantasyLandDreams\" post_id=\"2047813\" time=\"1637744014\" user_id=\"105816:
2 different schools I know reported the below and the numbers are consistent with their past year results for number of students who achieved above 250.
School A: 57 students achieved AL9 and above
School B: 50 students achieved AL8 and above -

there will be more clarity after 2021 because 2020 simulation doesn't take into account possible changes in applicants choice of school due to AL. This is why MOE keep emphasising to not put all eggs in 1 basket. If students have ALX, try to put a ALX + 1 school as 2nd choice or 3rd choice.

Note, AL8 for Third Language was fixed by MOE and it is not floating (as the eligibility was in the past). Hence, I would put forth that we don't know exactly where the Top 10% stops anymore and therefore there a bit more uncertainty for the AL8-AL9 IP/O level schools. In the past, if you got the HMT / Third language eligibility it was extremely unlikely you would miss all of these schools (low 250s t-score COP) as the simple comparison of spaces and students ahead of you made it tough (if not impossible).Hope this helps.
Since AL is raw marks only, in any given year depending on the papers, cohort, and how students maximize the AL score the Top 10% could be a) somewhere in AL8 / AL8 extends beyond 10% or b) AL7 or AL9 (as an extreme). I don't think there has been a sea change in raw marks obtained and most likely it is still somewhere in AL8, but just saying we don't know for sure like we did in the past precisely how many people AL8 or better includes. For safety, it's something to keep in mind for the 6th choice.
