Do we need AL score of 8 to do 3rd language? if the form doesn't come with the results means cannot take?

Yes, the S1 posting form will state if u are eligible to do 3rd language. 8 and below - can take foreign language like french spanish jap and german.

My daughter scored AL 19 this year. Please help to suggest secondary schools nearby ang mo kio area.

Based on new AL system, all AL 5 will be awarded EEIS. Imagine if a few students who gotten AL 5 didn’t receive EEIS letter, MOE will receive complains as it will not be fair. Last year EEIS based on T-score is 261.

Thanks for the replies. It's really quite difficult to choose this year with hardly any past years records based on AL scoring except for 2020 translated results from t-score. So much uncertainty and even when we so call meet the COP, its still so risky.

Agree. Under AL, very hard to choose Secondary schools, because of the Order imposed, even if u do meet the COP for the school, headache

Apparently, some schools still do. In the past, they prob announced the number of students scoring above a certain tscore and now they continue with this practice, except now they announce the number of students scoring AL8 and better (or AL9 and better as seen below).

I also have photos of a few schools sharing their AL8 and better. And the number is different from below so there must be many more schools who still do it.

School A: 57 students achieved AL9 and above

there will be more clarity after 2021 because 2020 simulation doesn't take into account possible changes in applicants choice of school due to AL. This is why MOE keep emphasising to not put all eggs in 1 basket. If students have ALX, try to put a ALX + 1 school as 2nd choice or 3rd choice.

Note, AL8 for Third Language was fixed by MOE and it is not floating (as the eligibility was in the past). Hence, I would put forth that we don't know exactly where the Top 10% stops anymore and therefore there a bit more uncertainty for the AL8-AL9 IP/O level schools. In the past, if you got the HMT / Third language eligibility it was extremely unlikely you would miss all of these schools (low 250s t-score COP) as the simple comparison of spaces and students ahead of you made it tough (if not impossible).

Since AL is raw marks only, in any given year depending on the papers, cohort, and how students maximize the AL score the Top 10% could be a) somewhere in AL8 / AL8 extends beyond 10% or b) AL7 or AL9 (as an extreme). I don't think there has been a sea change in raw marks obtained and most likely it is still somewhere in AL8, but just saying we don't know for sure like we did in the past precisely how many people AL8 or better includes. For safety, it's something to keep in mind for the 6th choice.

Daughter got AL6(M), thinking of putting MGS IB as first choice and St Nicks IP as second choice. Do you all think it's OK?

MGS IB cop 5 then she can't make it. Cop 6 then she may end up ballot. Then the f don't get that 2nd choice risky if cop is 7 or 8 all those put first choice with 5/6 points in and full?

Not so likely that MGS IP will see AL5 as COP, therefore should still try as the 1st choice if it's really the child's dream school. Just have to make sure that there's a sensible safety placed in the 6th choice. (in fact, if you put SCGS IP as 3rd-5th choice, tat's probably quite a good safety, and if IP is the goal, put Temasek JC as 6th choice)
