I came up with a simpler example.

Suppose two students, one local and one foreigner, competing for last seat in Dunman High and Victoria.

The foreigner has AL 8D and his choices are
1. Victoria IP
2. Dunman High

The local student has AL 8M and his choices are
1. Dunman High
2. Victoria

Who goes to which school?

From Dunman High perspective, 8D is better than 8M so 8D should get it. From Victoria perspective, local student has priority so the local student should get it.

Or, MOE can let both students go to their first choice and everyone is happy

Someone above just made a good pt that the last student determines the COP. In this case, VS COP is 8 (it doesn’t matter what’s DHS COP). The local student will get VS (citizenship higher priority than order of choices) while foreign student will go to DHS.

Edit: see below for S1 posting priority
https://www.moe.gov.sg/microsites/psle-fsbb/posting-to-secondary-school/changes-to-s1-posting.html

Interesting, but confusing problem. It doesn't make much sense for the local student to get VS since that is not what he wants. I thought the tie-breakers come into play only when the 2 students have the same schools at the same priority level? ie. both of them specify VS as their 1st choice??
Remember the last student determines the COP of the school. Since foreigner has 8D, then 8D is the COP of DHS.

In this case, local with his 8M has not chance for DHS. Good scenario for brain workout.

Hi all, crowd sourcing if 8M is a risk for HCI? Thank you.
My opinion is very low chance. In fact, I have a hunch that HCI can be AL6 COP this year.

My son scored AL 5 .We are confused between IP A level and IB programs.Whether to choose RI or ACS(I)
All top students will definitely choose RI , I am worried how he will cope up in the competitive environment. He is from the neighbourhood school. I feel ACS(I) less competitive environment(may be i am wrong)
Please guide
I politely disagree with the phrase in bold. Nephew did well enough this PSLE to be offered any non-specialised sch he chooses. Due to personal reasons, HCI just edges out RI for him. According to him, quite a number of his NYPS classmates feel the same.

When I was researching between A level and IB for my son 5 years back, what I found then was that the former had more depth while the latter was wider in scope. Since my boy was Math/Sci-inclined, I suggested A level over IB to him.

NYGH COP for 2020 was 261 AL7(M), which is why I have indicated its 259+2

Why 259 is not AL6? That is just that because AL7 score range can be as high as 275 if AL1 subject are in the high 90s.

Will that all change for 2021? That is highlight possible because a 257 AL6 is now rank ahead of 259+2
Seriously, Veyron, we all know how you believe AL scores are related to t-scores, but the fact is, t-scores are the past and people are all trying to get used to AL scores. Discussing the relationship between t-scores and AL-scores, well, that's really chim, but also really pointless. Will knowing the relationship bring some special insight to people trying to get their kids into the best secondary schools? So what if a \"257 AL6\" ranks ahead of \"259+2\"? How will knowing that help get my kid into his desired school? I fail to see the point of linking AL scores to t-scores.

Yup any correlation between AL and T score only applies to the statistical pattern in 2020 and is totally pointless for a different year with different subject mean score and standard deviation.

Quite surprised to see some using total raw score * 3/4 to get t-score. They need to revise the formula for t score.

My girl got 10(M) and she is thinking of

1) Cedar Girls O level (4 to 9)
2) Chung Cheng main (6M to 11M)
3) Nan Chiau (4M to 11M)
4) Crescent girls (6 to 12)
5) TKGS (5 to 13)
6) Anglican (5D to 12P)

My girl really wanted to take a risk on Cedar even though I told her there are only 4 O level classes there, so nothing for me to say there.

Now just wondering for schools 2 to 4, they are quite close together in terms of COP, so is it silly to put them together? Or since my girl is ok if she ends up at TKGS, having TKGS at position 5 is a "safe" safety net, right? Any views if crescent girls or TKGS is better in terms of studying environment, teachers etc? Thank you in advance.

At 10(M) I think you should be OK even if Cedar Girls O is less likely. I don't think you need to drop down choices 2 through 4 any faster, as one of them is likely to catch her. Note, I think Crescent was 6-11 but that wouldn't change anything conclusions here. Good luck!

Hi, we stay in woodlands (near TE line) and my daughter got AL10. Our choices are:

1. Methodist Girls O level (cop8)
2. CHIJ secondary toa payo (cop10)
3. Swiss cottage (cop 11)
4. Riverside secondary (cop 14)

Appreciate if someone could advise on our choices. We prefer girls' school and she is taking Hindi as mother tongue(all these schools have Hindi). Is it risky to put CHIJ as 2nd choice as the cop is same as my daughter's AL? Any other good schools near woodlands? Please help.
Many thanks in advance!
St Margaret’s? Cedar O level? Crescent Girls?

Is there a risk she can’t get IP?
Can I have some advice?
