All Y1 students will buy a PLD (personal learning device). The school will give the model, configuration and take order before placing a bulk order with the vendor.

DHS was my husband’s alma mater and he strongly believes in the character building which DHS has, which has shaped his character and forged many great friendships which lasted till this day.

building character is our primary focus when researching for a secondary school for my child, with strong moral values

however, as DHS was still not an IP school in my husband’s era, I’m wondering if anyone knows how the past cohorts have fared for A levels?

The current indicative COP for DHS is 4-8, while my child scored 6 with a merit in HCL, i do feel anxious placing him in an IP track

My hubby and I were considering RI, HCI and DHS last year. Our primary focus was, and still is, character building and strong moral values. We preferred a small close knit environment where the A-level cohort size is smaller ~400 (vs ~800-1200 in larger JCs). This is because the two years in JC are short and by the time one adapts to a new campus, make new friends etc one year would have gone by. Choosing DHS minimises these changes. A co-ed school may also help boys and girls to gain a fresh perspective from each other intellectually, develop socially, and become more confident in expressing their views in the presence of members of the opposite sex and leaves them with a wider, more diverse network of friends. If your child wants to experience JC life, then I think a real JC (i.e .HCJC or VJC) will be a preferred choice because the dynamics is totally different from DHS.

My child made the final decision to join DHS and enjoys it - likes the proximity (we stay in the east) and the 16 canteen stalls offering pretty good choices and variety. lol

If your child is a self-directed learner, he will be fine in an IP track.

Most importantly, talk to him about the school choices - pros, cons and let him decide where he wants to spend the next 4-6 years of his student life. Intrinsic motivation is important when the going gets tough.

Very useful thoughts! Thanks! We will follow the same logic and send DS (AL6D) to DHS. Let's just hope this year's COP doesn't go up drastically. :xedfingers:

Some other factors also in DHS's favor:
- one of the strongest in Chinese language
- got MEP, as well as BCS, CLEP -- the only school with this combination.
- lower fees!!!
- nicer uniform!

oh! We are allowed to wear any school-based tee we want. When you enter, you get an orientation tee, you can wear that, or PE shirt. As you go along, you collect more t-shirts like CCA tee, class tee, Dunman tee. T-shirts are more comfortable for our weather hope this helps

or something similar?

DHS has elective modules (EM) for all levels: Yr 1-2 (optional) Yr 3-4 (compulsory 1 EM and up to 2 EMs per year).
These EMs have different areas of focus: humanities, languages, aesthetics, mathematics, sciences, leadership etc. If self-initiated a project, the proposal need to be approved by school first.

DHS may provide an overview of its curriculum during 27 Nov 2021 10am - 11am e-open house. Otherwise, you can ask a question by scanning the QR code on this page https://dunmanhigh.moe.edu.sg/e-openhouse-nov2021/

A typical day starts at 8am (earliest) (Fridays at 9am) and ends around 2pm. On days with 3rd language (Wed). electives (Tue/Wed) and CCA (different days depending on CCA) it will be longer 4-5pm+.

Sorry, I cannot help you with questions on 3rd languages. My child has no interest in taking up a 3rd language. Perhaps other DHS parents in KSP can help.

You are given the option to sign up for one way transport. Otherwise you have to make your way to the MOELC. lessons ended like 6pm or 6.30pm at Bishan for DHS German class. If your eligibility letter includes the option to sign up for 3rd foreign language, you will get it if the number of applications doesn’t exceed the vacancies. If it exceeds, they will use psle score. I think chances of getting german is very high.
