Hi and congrats. I think either is fine from a risk perspective; #4-#6 or #5-#6 are likely to catch him (if not CHS O).

I'm not sure exactly where you are staying but RVHS and TJC are two other IP options (AL9(D) and AL9 respectively). Roughly speaking, I'd assume TJC is not that much more difficult logistically than DHS or VS but that may not be the case (take note, TJC will also move from 2024-2027 to 2 Tampines Avenue 9).
Good luck, hopefully he will get CHS IP! -

Um... what magic did you use to get the Estimated AL Score percentage?
The poll results: https://share.getcloudapp.com/nOu54yPN
NOTE:
This is just a poll, in other words, GIGO.
Only MOE has the distribution of PSLE AL scores.
The following figures are used:
68.4% for the Express course: AL4-20
18.9% for the Normal (Academic): AL21-24 where AL21-22 has the option to choose Express / N(A).
and 11.1% for the Normal (Technical): AL25-30 where AL25 has the option to choose N(A) / N(T).
Assumption: AL8 is the top 10% -

I just want to point out that whatever indicative cop you see for any school, has already accounted for the affiliated students. So there is no need to be overly concerned to relate the effect of cop for non affiliated students in a sec school where they accept affiliated students.
Hey babyA
Your order of selection looks odd to me, but I noticed that you are leaning towards Catholic schools. I am not overly familiar with Catholic schools, but does your daughter come from affliated primary school of CHIJ SJC?
If yes, then I think CHIJ SJC will be safe for you.
Otherwise, you need to take note that most of those schools you selected have affiliated primary schools, leaving limited vacancies for others.
You may want to consider filling up more with AL15 schools in between, and maybe an AL16 school as safety net.
Good luck, and I hope she gets into the schools of her choices.

Affiliated students have been acceped into the schools for decades. It is not a new thing. In fact, since psle 2019, it has even been mandated that the sec schs need to set aside a min for non affiliated students, vs before that, they could take in everyone.
So again, no need to be overly concerned about the impact of the presence of affiliated pri schools on its cop. -
Hi, My son Al score is 15 and we are staying in Sengkang and are considering below schools
1. Dunman Secondary, Tampines, AL 14
2. Edgefield secondary, Punggol, AL 14
3. Pei Hwa secondary, Sengkang, AL16
4. Holy Innocents, Hougang, AL 15
5. Bowen Secondary, Hougang AL 16
6. Pasir Ris Crest, Pasir Ris, Al 17
Is it too risky to choose first two options with AL14 cutoff? Dunman and Edgefield are his preferred choices and hence keeping it as 1&2, but worried that it might be too risky as it is above his al score.
Any other recommendations or views. Also, a new school Yusof Ishak is starting in Punggol in 2021 any views on this school. Thanks -
Hi parents,
My DS got AL6(P) .
Our choice order
1)HCI (COP 7M)
2)RI (COP 6)
3)NJC (COP 7)
4)RV (COP 9)
5)DHS (COP 8D)
6)ACS IP (COP 7)
Will it be too risky for 1 and 2? Thanks . -

She’s not from any of the affiliated schools. But she’s like to go to a girls school hence you see all 6 choices are not co-Ed. Might you have a better suggestion on how I can order the choices or add others? SMSs (11) is on the list with a view to appeal (but know that it’s going to be hard).
appreciate your thoughts -

Congratulations on the good results. Which school is his dream school? According to last year’s data, if it’s still accurate this year, he will be going to HCI. Your safety net is RV.

i believe this is because parents (AL10 and below) are more kiasu, worrying about school selection. not necessary because of more AL10 and below. the percentage of each ALs should be more or less same as past years' percentage.
after reading through the pages, its seem to me many students got below AL10, so I bet there will be many balloting for IP schools.
AL6 and AL8 is the COP for several top schools, balloting is almost for sure for these schools. -

I agree. There's still quite a bit of guesswork involved. Statistically, it's possible that AL4-5 students' flocking to one particular school (esp a girl school) would drive that school's COP down to AL5.
No one knows for sure but it is unclear to me whether students who enter via DSA Academic domains are strongly biased towards AL4s and AL5s vs. AL6s+ (obviously still very good scores).
In the past, I believe the vast majority of DSA Academic could meet the COP based on PSLE results. Part of this was due to the fact the very very high scores in your \"talent\" subject helped to boost the overall t-score. But under AL since 90 and 100 are both AL1, the subject geniuses no longer get any leverage out the best subject and AL4-AL5 means you are just good at everything (perhaps >90 should be described in a different way than \"just good\"
).
Combined with the fact that the AL COP will involve many more students than in the past, there's a reasonable case that the DSA Academic took out less of the supply of students \"well inside\" (i.e. high or best scorers) of the COP vs years past. Again, no one knows for sure, and I wouldn't suggest anyone behaves differently with their choices but it's something to think about.
That being said, there are definitely going to be students who got AL4-AL5 and also got a CO/WL converted (froma ll of academic, sports, leadership, CCA, etc); there's no shortage of really bright kids that work hard to put up great results!
I think the gender distribution can produce some interesting outcomes. Girls traditionally already outperformed boys under t-score, now that the AL system further rewards more well-rounded students (dilute boys' advantages in science and math, so goes the stereotypical thinking), the expectation is that girls would do even better.
What impact will this have? Some AL6 girls pushed out RGS, NYGH, and MGS, and a cascading effect happens: they have to settle for co-ed schools (NJS, DHS, RVHS) and push out boys who would otherwise get into those under t-score?
Maybe something to take into consideration when making selection choices.
