2022 P1 Registration Exercise for 2023 In-take

Ok voted. No other choice other than the last one actually, and I believe it will be so for many parents who fail at Phase 2A.


If the school is so popular that you have a good chance to be balloted out at phase 2A, then it is most likely that the school will also need to ballot within 1km for phase 2C, and most likely you will have to be within 1km as well to succeed in 2B.

And if you are within 1km of the school AND qualify for phase 2A, it is almost guaranteed to secure a place at this phase, save for maybe 1 or 2 really popular schools. If you are outside of 1km, then you don’t stand a chance really at phase 2B and 2C anyway. Not to mention many if not most parents who are alumni of the schools would not have bothered to try to qualify as a school volunteer prior to the announcement of the latest changes, and it is too late to try to get onboard to qualify 2B after the announcement.

I would want to try again at later phases if I even have a chance, unfortunately that’s probably not going to happen. I am actually within 1-2 km of a school and qualify for 2A, and if I fail at this I know that for phases 2B and 2C balloting will definitely take place for those within 1 km, then what choice do I really have heh

I have put up an important new poll to test out what parents will do when they fail to secure a place in a school in Phase 2A. Given the responses, we will try to simulate the situation based on 2021's data so that we can project what is likely to happen in the P1 registration coming up.

I m SC living within 1km of Kuo Chuan primary school. what are my chances for next year’s P1 registration for my child in phase 2C or 2CS. ?


actually my child will be able to register in another school under Phase 1. My concern is that if I don’t take up the place in Phase 1 and I cannot get my child in KCPS in phase 2C/2CS, then my child has no where to go to?

Does it make sense to register in Phase 1, study for a year in 2022 and then apply for transfer in 2023 for P2 in KCPS? What do I need to do in order to transfer if it’s possible? Put my child’s name down on waiting list after next year’s p1 registration exercise?

Phase 1 is sibling phase. Are u sure u dont mean phase 2A (alumni phase)?

The phases 2a/2c/2cs are run in separate time periods. So u can apply under phase 2A, if get in, just stay put (unless the phase 2A school is like 1-2 hours’ journey daily).

If fail phase 2A, just apply KCPPS during phase 2C. Worst case scenario balloting <1km, at least u qualify. If get the place, best outcome for u.

If fail 2C, try Marymount Convent during 2CS (if child is a girl. If boy, then try Kheng Cheng or FTPPS).

If fail 2CS, MOE most likely post your child to FTPPS anyway (no other likely school nearby).

Good points. Parents are really caught in the sudden change in how P1 registration works and it will take some years before the system stabilizes. For those staying outside of 1km, it must be a real heartache to see your alma mater or dream school slip by, so near, yet so far... :gloomy:
I suspect people might want to try again in Phase 2C though, since that is where the 20 places went to, anyway. But they have to be prepared with a solid 2nd choice school for Phase 2CS that they can go to.

Sorry i dont understand why want to give up guaranteed Phase 1 seat. Too far away from home? Or prefer KCPPS cos got affiliated secondary?

I would choose Phase 1, then apply for transfer after phase 3 closes. Possibly have to wait on waiting list until child is primary 2 or 3.

It is still “better” than child enrolled in FTPPS and awaiting transfer until primary 2 or 3…(erm, unless your Phase 1 school is FTPPS, in which case i’d try KCPPS at phase 2C!)

Yes. KCPPS got affiliated secondary. Our Phase 1 is a much coveted school but no affiliation for male.

We realised the importance of affiliation to secondary school as a safety net in case the child doesn't have DSA and didn't perform well enough.

In this kind of situation, I’d register the boy at that highly coveted Phase 1 school, and then waitlist at KCPPS once phase 2CS is over (probably dont need to wait till phase 3).

Places most likely open up in Primary 3 when the class sizes get bigger. Just keep your son on waitlist and keep checking with KCPPS.

Definitely can get a transfer before his P5 and he will get the affiliation safety net. Meantime just let him learn under the rigorous academic standards + SAP envt.
