Hi parents my view:
Care to explain why t-score should not be mentioned anymore?
Suppose I ask you, what do you think best (in terms of academic achievement) or the most popular AL11 COP schools in Singapore?
What will be your answer and why?
A chillie can mean craving for a person or fear for another person, even though it is indisputable same chillie for that 2 person. Our unique perspective are determine by many personal factors like living environment, personal experience, hopes and concerns etc. Many of them cannot be control by us, unless we are aware of them.
In another KSP group, a student deciding between a school just opposite her block and another around 1 hour away. To many parent it is an obvious decision, the one opposite her block. But she chosen the one 1 hour away. Her reason is she likes to travel. She put it ahead of having to wake up earlier for school and the potential tiredness. She has her personal preference which some others cannot relate to. It happens. If we are aware of such things are happening and the reasons, maybe we have added perspectives when it comes to encountering very diverse views ? -
Wondering what was the original intent of the ESIS but now it seems like using taxpayers’ money to subsidise rich kids (as AL4 and AL5 kids definitely skew towards those from higher SES families).
1200 kids get $200 per month for 6 years will mean $17.28 mil per batch. These funds might be better spent on kids on the other end of the spectrum, as it is a well known fact that they are worst hit by the pandemic and the effects can be life-long. MOE should set a income cap for ESIS. -

Just take an example, Helen scored raw score 350 (and a tscore of 258). Helen was the last student to get posted to MGS.
Your above illustration is incorrect and here is why
a) MOE does not set a predetermine 2020 AL COP for MGS to conduct their simulation. Doing so will be like putting the cart before the horse
b) MOE simulation does not move students around from school to school or change the school order of choice etc
c) MOE does not conduct balloting in their simulation.
In the above illustration, if Helen is AL7, then the indicative AL COP for MGS will be AL7, not AL6. Helen doesnt get remove from MGS just because she is AL7. And if MOE move Helen to another IP school, then someone from another IP school will have to be kicked out.
Hope you understand what I am saying here. (think think)
However under AL banding, Helen who scored 100+100+100+50 could only score AL9 although her raw score is still 350.
If MOE did not reshuffle the students under AL banding simulation, then MGS COP should be AL9 because Helen who got in via tscore had AL9.
Thus, you cannot simply assume via the proxy of school’s COP that AL6 = 258. -

That is a reason why I specifically mentioned academic achievement to avoid indulging in more subjective and superficial reasoning etc.

If your child score an AL5 will you for convenient sake put your child at at COP AL19 school because its just across the road? Perhaps for argument sake, you may say yes, -

ESIS is literally edusave award for independent schools. It is awarded to Singaporean student in top 3% psle cohort who apply to study in independent school only. As independent school school fee is high, it is a way of lowering the school fee to a level close to government aided school for Singaporean students. Students in government aided school already receive similar subsidy. With ESIS, the students will no longer be eligible for the normal edusave awards such as edusave scholarship, bursary, leadership, eagle etc in government aided schools.

Most independent schools' students are from middle class. -
I think no point arguing with the strong believer of t-score and AL correlation, any other sane person would have rest their case if there are so many people speaking up against them, unless one is deriving strong (and strange) pleasure from it. So you are only feeding into that strange pleasure by continuing. Only step in if there are unknowing parties who appear to be have been misled.

Hi in simple terms , i don’t know about t score/ SD… etc…
can I say that MOE translates for example School A cohort into AL scoring ( for 2020 PSLE ).
School A Last space student in 2020 scored 257 for PSLE
But if each cohort where converted to AL scoring There might be AL8 ( example ) , in that case AL8 is considered as the last space available .
Which means that AL8 is not the 257 ?
Cos MOE looked into each student’s AL in that school. So they rank accordingly 4,5,6,7,8
Not 276,273…….258,257,256
As for tie breaker rules, MOE didn’t take it for 2020. They will start only for 2021 PSLE student . Since there’s no longer T score . -

Won’t it be better then to award the subsidy to all students who gain a place in independent schools instead of the top 1/3 and set an income cap (such that it’s still 1/3 of students enjoying the subsidy)

Actually how does the 3% number come about ar? I suddenly thought of it, and looks like number didn't match.

* MOE said ESIS given to top 1/3 of students admitted to independent school by PSLE scores.
* If ESIS given to top 3%, then it implies independent school intake is 9-10% of cohort?
* And we always say 10% top of cohort is eligible for IP
* There are currently 8 independent schools in Singapore, and 16 IP/IB schools (including the 8 independent school)
Maybe ESIS is given to 1.5% or 2% of cohort only?
Confuse.. :scratchhead: -

Not all of the 3% eligible for ESIS choose to go independent schools.
