My girl scored AL6, didn't get first choice RGS. Not sure if it's because of ballot or because cut off is actually lower than 6.

Think MOE said there is no COP at AL4 and AL5 for this year. So, RGS AL6 must have been balloted out.

But back to the system. MOE shifted from T-score to AL-system with the emphasis not to chase the last 1 score. This AL posting exercise (AL6 balloted out of RGS or RI) kind of telling us that, to be safe, kids now have to chase 5-points..

I think the difference is Tscore chasing last point at total sum, but AL chasing last point at the weakest subject. If the kid is confident to achieve 90+ at one subject, no need to chase any point further.

totally understand your frustration.
100 AL6 balloting for 10 places is very different from balloting for 90 places.
For RI and RGS, i guess the chances for AL6 to get in are much lower than 50%, maybe even lower than 20% 30%.

ESIS is only for top 3%, cop for ESIS is AL5 this year, and RGS cop for past year is around 261, ESIS COP for past year is also around 261 260.
you can already imagine that an AL6 not enough to secure a place in RI or RGS.

It is good that your DS can take it well, not success in your first or second choice doesn't mean the end of the day. Lot of my colleagues who studied in normal neighbourhood schools before have achieved excellent exam results in O level / polytechnic and went to universities. Just want to say \"加油\" to your DS and you should be proud of him.

Understandable for u to be upset becos u didnt get wat u want.
But if IP track is the most important factor, u could have put in DHS, TJC, RV in the 3rd-5th choices.
MOE cannot satisfy everyone for sure.

Distance is important. The child cannot be going round the whole island twice a day.
So the question again, to MOE, is why a girl with AL8 goes to IP, and another with similar score goes to O level in the same school, as in the case for SCGS?
We are Singaporeans.

For clarification, we are happy with the posting, but the posting criteria and results do not make sense, to us as parents and to the children.

MOE cannot satisfy everyone for sure. -> Disagree. They need to come out with a policy which makes sense to students and parents.

Well, I (parent) thought of appealing for HCI, but DS and mommy are happy with RVHS.

I am not moe but i can try to explain that moe does not decide who goes where. There is no criteria. Somehow a girl who has AL8 chose to go to scgs o level and another girl with AL8 chose to go to scgs ip.

If for some strange reason, nobody with AL10 and below opted for RI, like maybe it moved to Pulau Ubin and then no one with AL 10 and below wanted to go there, and there are 10 places in RI, then an AL 11 opted for it, and 8 AL12 opted for it, and 3 AL 13 opted for it, then the cut off for the school would be AL13 and that is solely set by the students.
